been sacked from work need some advice!

Banned
well basically i got into work this morning and found out i had been sacked, i am/was a chef. basically the reason is the owner didnt know where my loyalties layed due to me seeing another member of staff who had been sacked the day before. he said to contact him tomorrow after i have thought about where my loyalties do lay. its a very good job that offers me so many opportunities and i actually really liked working there. theres no other good places to work around where i live and this place is literally on my doorstep. i've never said a bad word about it and i have people that can back this up.

i just dont know what to say to him tomorrow, any advice?

cheers

so you've been sacked for dating another member of staff...

surely he/she cant sack you for that? Yes, if you have both been caught "at it" in the kitchen, but not if its outside working hours. gotta be some rules.

Do you have a contract?
How often/where do you see this "other staff member" - apart from work obviously

Maybe they're just looking to get rid of 1 or 2 people without pay redundancy or the like?

ACAS is your first call tbh.

surely he cant sack you for who you see/are friends with in your own time??

tell him you will seek advice about unfair dismissal then he will poop his pants and say have your job back!!!

there was something about this on radio the other day saying they were going to try and make dating other staff members illegal!!! they cant do this surely!
sorry i know this doesnt help you
but they cant do this as long as it doesnt affect your work

why was the person you're seeing sacked? cos does that make a difference to where your loyalties lie? :?

Say whatever is nescessary to retain your job. If its good for you then you need to keep it. Good Jobs are hard to come by. If you are not sure tell him your loyalties lie firmly with the firm, and can he advise you on what action to take to retain your job, as you are unsure yourself.

just to clarify its another male member of staff, the girl im seeing still works there and they're cool with that. the owner is a very professional man and only wants the best for his business which i fully respect. i really do want this job so im not going to threaten him with legal stuff, wouldnt even do that. i've been working there for a few months, but have no contract.

i just dont know what to say to him tomorrow :-(

depends what circumstances were for the person getting the sack, for you to be sacked also for being around that person,,

to be honest i would seek advice and put in for unfair dismissal, its pathetic for a boss/ex boss to do that,
also depend how long you have worked there for also,

advice is the best option for unfair dismissal

speak to him, hope you can keep your job, let him know where your loyalties lie,

As an ex Union rep......unfair dismissal hun, tell him this if he gives you any more veiled threats and doesn't give you your job back.

Take him to the cleaners

si, im confused

are you male or female, and are "seeing another" female or male!?

could possibly do him for sexual discrimation as well? perhaps?

im seeing this girl that still works there, and they have no problem with relationships between staff members. i am male and the other person got sacked is also male. the reason he got sacked was the way he talked to people. he was worse than gordon ramsay but he knew his stuff so i just shut up and do what he said, i learnt alot.

i dont want to take any legal action against him, i just want my job back :-(

you can be sacked for ANYTHING if boss doesnt like clothes you wear anything at all now whether hes got a case is another matter contact acas and see what they say before you have your meeting not a union rep they think they know it all but dont

From DirectGov.......and not saying I know everything :whistling: but I do know the basics

It will be up to you to show that you have been dismissed. This will … It will be up to you to show that you have been dismissed. This will usually be clear but may be more difficult if you are claiming that you have been constructively dismissed.Your employer must show they have:

a valid reason for dismissing you
acted reasonably in the circumstances
They need to have investigated the situation adequately and followed at least the steps in the statutory minimum dismissal procedure (if it applies). If they don't follow the minimum procedure, your dismissal is usually automatically unfair. If your employer has investigated fairly but come to the wrong conclusion (for example, if they have got the facts wrong), this will not necessarily mean the dismissal is unfair.Your employer must be able to show that they've been consistent and have not sacked you for doing something that they normally let other employees do.You may be able to claim unfair dismissal if you can show that you weren't told about a relevant company rule or policy by your employer.

So you are seeing a girl that works there and a male who got sacked yesterday..........may as well hedge your bets i suppose.

Get you a**e down the Citizens Advice, and/or try WHich Legal Helpline (About a tenner for 3 months).

Make sure you get anything off your boss in writing, if you possibly can.

Just have a quiet word with your boss, let him know you really like/want your job. He may have got the wrong end of a stick about you or something.
Nothing better than a good old talk and air any problems you both have.
Good luck !!!.

How did it turn out?

Hope you kept your job!

Hang on a minute, you've got no contract? So you're a temp? In which case, as I understand it, they can tell you to sling your hook whenever they feel like it.

Any update on this?
