I have had several fab times in Dublin, the last one took me 4 days to recover...be jaysus i was ill lol .I just didn't want to be the one on the trip ,where everyone says 'well YOU know where to go'
( Ta for putting me in the right place btw )

Belfast!!! Easy to get round by foot, good variety of places to go and places to eat at reasonable prices. I found too many dodgy areas in Dublin and got ripped off a couple of times and the queues were horrendous. Also had a bit of cheek and lip from dubliners but never had anything but friendliness in Belfast

Both are excellent cities. Ive seen a lot more than dublin though, the main area for parties from what ive seen is the temple bar area, only the southern side of the Liffey Loads of pubs, restaurants etc. Belfast has an advantage if you want to keep to the British currency though. Theres an abundance of hotels in Dublin, ranging from hostels right the way through to big plush places. Lou will able to help you with hotels as she has stayed actually in the city, ive only stayed in the ibis out the west side of the main area. If you havent booked flights yet, you might be lucky and get another 1p sale closer to the time with ryanair - they now fly to Belfast City and at very good prices unlike easyjet who go to Aldergrove...

Overall i'd go to Dublin - ive only been to belfast when ive been crossing the city (to go to dublin) so havent seen any of what it has to offer. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.

Belfast on a saturday night... the "cathedral quarter" is the place to be... the whole area is full of pubs and clubs Well, there's a few to choose from!

To be honest belfasts probely better than Derry City, but in the same way i don't really like northern ireland and prefer the south of ireland although its known as (Rip off republic) although the fuel is cheaper than normal lol

Where did Derry come into this? :-D

I like Belfast better (and not only cos I live 4 miles from the city centre) and while Temple Bar in Dublin is great at night, and Copper Face Jacks is the place to be, Dublin is much more expensive than Belfast.

What sort of things are you into - gay/straight/mixed? Live music/dj - what sort of music? What sort of food? Are you looking for top quality accommodation or cheap n cheerful?

Megacellar:Yeah, maybe eire is known as the Rip off Republic, but sure all we heard on the news last years were reports of Rip-off Britain. Everyone complains about prices where they live.

    gotobelfast.com/

    this site mite help.

may i suggest the big wheel to see a bird eye view of belfast, best at nite.

Look here 4 list of places to stay belfast.net/Acc…els

i would recomend city centre, try stay out of accomodation in the universtiy area.

    for food i highly recommend
    villa italia (italian)
red panda (the odyssey one is better) (chinese)
beatrice kennedys (never ate here but anyone wqho has loves it)
    wild willys steakhouse

    Beatrice Kennedy's is excellent ^^

its a favourite of my parents ^^.

Theres a new place open up beside villa italia drennans or something like that 3 course for £16 but il let ya no if its any good when i visit middle of feb

Dublin is good but its very expensive, 5 euro a pint is par for the course.

Belfast can be good craic it just depends where you go, there a lots and lots of nice little pubs scattered all around the city centre if you are willing to look for them, i am maybe not the best person to reccommend places to drink for a 40th birthday as i tend to go to studenty places, but you could try the likes of:

Morrisons, Ten Square, The Basement, The Apartment, Northern Whig, Benedicts, Wellington Park.

As for food, Villa Italia is nice as already mentioned. The botanic area has some nice places at reasonable prices - Maggie Mays, AM:PM, Scalini, The Moghul (think thats what you call it, its an Indian) and some nice chinese restaurants like The Imperial City (If there is a lot of you, 10+, ring and ask them can you book the upstairs room with the karoke machine :giggle: )

If you like Indian food - I highly recommend zafron on the Lisburn road.

oh must give that a try thanks emma

Fan of Belfast. Got fed up with going to temple bar every 2 years to watch Wales play rugby and been to Belfast a few times for a change. Europa hotel is great as it the place opposite, fibber mcgee's. We normally watch rugby in the Botanic bar (known as "the bot"). If you can get a good deal in the Hilton go there. Go for an exec room and get free food and drink for 2 hours before you go out.

    I find this also.
If you're anything but a nordie, the dubs will be nice to you, seems to be the general rule in dublin.
May I throw in a wildcard and suggest Cork?

Oh! Belfast bars are far more lenient on big groups than in dublin. Unless you happen to be a group of supermodels, the dub bars will turn you away.

    Are we all invited ?????

i prefer dublin also - actually I love dublin

If you're after quality the Hilton is meant to be lush, and fairly central, though not right in the centre, probably a 5 minute walk away. hilton.co.uk/bel…ast

On a Friday night the M club is good - it's Groovy Train night! If you phone and tell them you're coming over from England for a night out they'll probably give you VIP tickets mclub.co.uk/

Saturday nights are good at Kremlin kremlin-belfast.com/ it's a gay bar but gets a mixed crowd, dance music and great craic, all ages, and if you're not ready for home then you can go straight into Event Horizon which is in the same complex kremlin-belfast.com/e-h…tml it's open till 6am. By 6 am the only ones left standing are e-tards, but it's great anyway.

    I would go for Dublin
