Hi,
I am after 17 inch laptop which i can use for AutoCad and few other Engineering Softwares which need good graphic card but don't have to be top of the range like for gaming. I am after reliable but not too expensive. Been looking at dell and HP but not sure which one to go for. Any suggestions is highly appreciated.

Can consider desktop but not too keen as i will be stuck at desk and cannot take it away if need be.

(The Shenker W706 is I believe a Clevo P771DM.)

A couple of friends in University over in America learning animation both use ASUS G752's which is now available with a GTX 1060 (better performing than old 980m) for £1500 to £1600 or a GTX 1070 for £2200 ish.

There's also quite a few 15.6" workstation laptops on Dells outlet site today, if it does not need to be portable all the time you could use it hooked up to a monitor at home ? (I can't comment on the M4800/3800 but the M3510 has some fair poor reviews).

I'd start by finding out whether AutoCAD needs Quadro/FirePro or whether gaming cards can be used. Plus, you really should look at precisely what those 'few other Engineering' programs are as often some programs run far better on Nvidia or AMD.

dozstanford's NBC list is great, but there's not much choice for 17" workstation laptops. They tend to be quite heavy too; not quite desktop heavy but then you lose a lot flexibility.

You could try used but for instance until the P70 Lenovo hadn't made a 17" Thinkpad since the first-gen i5/i7 W701 back in 2011, so that would mean looking only at HP and Dell Precisions.

A used workstation desktop plus a light portable laptop might your better bet.
