yeh but do samsungs last for years?? i dont wanna buy it and it dies out like 6 months in

Well they are a much better brand than they used to be. In fact Samsung supply Sony Bravia with their screens.I would go for a Samsung as they are good and within your budget:thumbsup:

I'm looking for something similar and have sort of whittled it down to a Samsung LE32R87 (about £485 from Empire Direct with 3 years warranty) or the Toshiba 32C3030D (£469 from John Lewis with 5 year warranty). Although both tellies can be bought cheaper elsewhere they only come with a 1 year warranty.

From the av forums the general consensus is the Toshiba has the edge on standard definition sources but the Samsung is a tad better with high definition. I don't know about the Tosh but apparently there is more than 1 different kind of panel used in the Sammy and 1 is more reliable than the other.

The other one I'm considering is the Philips 32PFL5522D but can't find any reviews on that.
As its so close the final decision will rest with the missus and whatever one she thinks looks best.

Forgot to mention that What Hi-Fi has rated the Samsung just ahead of the Toshiba.

    Update:

right, its a battle between 'Samsung LE32R87BD' or 'Panasonic TX32LXD70', i can find the samsung in my price range but the Panasonic has had better reviews (but is slightly out of my budget), can anyone who has had both or has one of these, tell me are they good, is it worth the money?, is the quality of the pic good for TV and gaming? also is it good for watching standard dvds? please please help me as its my first switch from CRT to LCD HD ready so i want the best TV for my price

    thank you

Must admit if the Panny was nearer £500 - it'd be the one I get. Been looking at that one as well...but you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise you'd be looking at £800 tellys. Apparently the LXD70 uses the same panel as the LXD700 which "won" the What Hi-Fi review (published a couple of days ago)

You can get the Panny for £556 from Empire Direct (if you pick up includes Quidco cashback) - or about £566 using codes and Quidco from Currys

whats the deal with john lewis? i heard they price match and give a 5 year guarantee....is that true?

Yes but only with "bricks and mortar" stores not solely online outlets. However John Lewis will price match with Empire Direct with the displayed price in the Empire Direct stores as long as it is in stock and on display. If the discount code for Empire Direct only applies to online purchases they may not match this.

They have agreed to match the Empire Direct price for the Toshiba 32c3030d for me this week £449 (plus £20 delivery hence £469) and you still get the John Lewis 5 year warranty.

Theres going to be new samsung CRT HD ready Slim fits coming out in october

Left it a bit late then.. :-D Unless you mean 2008.. :giggle:

Just out of interest why did you prefer the M87 over the R87? was it the styling or the spec eg 100mhz?

    the 100 mhz,

Currys - £679 - but with YAW800 code and 50LCD code this brings it to under £600 and you can get Quidco as well.

Best bit is you get a free Samsung DVD Recorder worth £99

and before you ask - it is the same tv - below is from av forums

    Q. What's the difference between the M86 & M87?
    A. Purely cosmetic, see the Samsung website for pictures.

    Q. On some sites I see the set referred to as a M87BD but on others it says M87BDX, is there a difference?
    A. No, it's the same set.
