I have no suggestions ... but I'd look to maybe not buying a pure 4x4 with that kind of money. More a car that has 4x4 capabilities.

I thought of that but I need to get up several 8:1 slopes and thought a 4x4 would be best.

Was going to suggest this the older ones are indestructible as proved by top gear, I have seen one driven into a foundation trench dragged out by JCB and barely a mark on it.

Older Shoguns are pretty hardy too my brother in law had one that used to belong to his boss before it was stolen and rolled, it was then taken to a police lock up yard from where it was again stolen and burnt out completely inside, my brother in law then got his boss to buy it from the insurance company for peanuts to use on the family farm as a hack for getting about, he removed all the body panels with a grinder sat a milk crate in it and it started on the first turn of the screwdriver, he did eventually weld a better seat in though. The brakes suspension engine and gearbox all worked fine though

Buy some snow chains, it'll be a lot cheaper

probably wont be any snow again now or if there is, it wont be like it has been, worst that'll happen is rain/ice in which case a big proper 4wd isn't really necessary

before i got my wr1 i bought a 2000 turbo for just over 3k, i went to see plenty under that price with more miles, none of which had stupid mods, loads of them have been ruined/thrashed by morons but it's not hard to find a decent unmodified one

@OP best if you can to wait until mid-summer when prices on true 4x4's slump slightly, they will rise again on older ones first sign of heavy snow, prices will slump too if there is a sharp rise in fuel.

you call me a knob just because i don't agree with someone who drives a crv(a girls vehicle) and as for the "its performance won't get you round the roads round my way anywhere near as fast as i can do them" bit, that's laughable, a scooby would absolutely kill a cr-v on any type of road and an a8 would destroy it

you don't have to drive sports cars like you're on a track though, you can own an impreza/evo/skyline and drive them like billy bob drives his fiesta if you want, it's the grip that is important on icy roads, you think rally drivers drive their 300bhp cars flat out during a snow/mud event?

yes i know what a KTM looks like, i have a yz426, a 400 four and a crf450 in the garage, i'd just use one of those to blow you off instead

i'm not confusing anything with anything, i said there is a difference, size/shape it's still a difference and they are different types of vehicles, you've already quoted the sizes and there is a difference. you just don't seem to get it, obviously spent too much time worrying about getting hit on your moped

good luck trying to keep up with a car on ice, get one of your mates to video that for liveleak (death videos probably aren't allowed on youtube)

google says the top speed of your KTM is 120 mph, you really think that you can beat a car on a "fast open road" hahahah

also the 400 four is a classic, it hasn't been on the road since 2001 when i had it painted, you seemed to think i had no idea what a KTM was so i was proving you wrong, my a8 is good for 175 with the limiter taken off and the scooby will do 155 so you're just making yourself look dumb now

Who said about racing on ice, I said a race on my local roadsBike does … Who said about racing on ice, I said a race on my local roadsBike does slighty more than 120mph but it gets to 60 in 3 secs how many hours does your car take?Bikes also pass cars a lot easier than a car and on my roads a lot of people will be driving faster than you and no one slows down to let other cars pass (its likely you'll be going as fast as posible and get easily over taken by someone else)So just accept in a race you'd lose badly, just like you have in this agurement so it not as if your not used to it

    ha, what's an agurement?

"Who said about racing on ice, I said a race on my local roads"

this whole thread is about roads in winter, so you're saying my car would beat your bike in winter? awesome, end of conversation i think

not sure on the 0-60 times as i've never timed it but it's not much more than 4/5 seconds, i know the yz does it in 3.5 though the way i have it geared. when you're blowing your engine up at 120mph, i'd be going past you going 50mph more, this is irrelevant anyway as we'd both be arrested by the filth and wouldn't be able to drive legally for some time

so you live on the isle of man? explains why you're so clueless about most things, isolated on that small island away from normal people(if you do actually live on the isle of man, if you don't, i can't explain it).

trying to understand your failed attempt at english here, from what i can understand you keep trying to tell yourself that you've won an argument by claiming that your bike(an enduro bike, not a road bike) with a top speed of 125 can beat an audi a8 or an impreza on a "fast open road" you're also telling yourself that you've been making fun of me when you clearly have not, yes bikes can be faster than cars but not your bike

from what you've said you've owned a cr-v(girls car) and a KTM enduro bike, if these are the only two vehicles you have owned then you have never experienced real speed and handling

anyway, enjoy getting soaked while going 20mph, on ice, on your moped. i'll be thinking of you behind the double glazed windows of my car with the heater on, if you'd like to experience some real machines i'll happily meet up and let you have a go, my mother has had a go in my scooby and she didn't crash so i'm sure you'll be ok on a car park

    meep meep

Come on guys this isn't really helping the op!! How about you both just get them out and get a tape measure as that's obviously all this is about.
