Best Alternative to Virgin Media

I am sick of the lack of quality in broadband I am getting from Virgin Media and I am looking for alternatives, I am on the 50mbps unlimited offer with free weekend calls, they increased it to 100mbps for 'free' (by raising prices a few months later).

However I am consistently getting laggy broadband that just drops the signal multiple times throughout the day, I checked my connection speed today and it was 6mbps download speed. I used to get 40-60 mbps about 7-8 months ago.

So I am looking for alternatives that offer a similar plan to mine and a provider which is more reliable, I am open to your suggestions/recommendation.

Have you got the superhub 2 or 3? Their equipment is the lowest of the low but the superhub 3 improved things for me.

Also, it depends on your area. I am in the middle of a city but Virgin is the only provider who can offer me fiber. What options do you have?

I would try a reset of your equipment or phone tech. support, dump them if they don't sort it but give them a chance. Your drop in speed is massive and would suspect something technical . Virgin for me is best ISP i have had so far

Have you checked what wireless channel your router is broadcasting on? There could be channel overlap from a nearby neighbour's router or something. This is the only problem I've ever had and it got sorted over web chat with VM ( on a PC connected via network cable ).

Have tried changing multiple times, only slight difference for a few days and then back to the connectivity issues.

I have reset it a few times but not for a while, will try and see if this resolves the issue. I suspect there is something going on in my area that there not telling me about. Even so, I have no confidence that in the long term resetting will resolve the issue.

I have phoned to complain a few times before, this seems to fix the problem for a month and then back to lag, I don't know if they are bottlenecking me and I have no idea how to check.

is it possible to ask for a discount to my monthly fees due to these issues.

I have the Superhub 2ac, would they give me the superhub 3 for free?

I think the area I am in I would be able to get fiber with all providers as I am in the centre of a town.

Stay away from Virgin i have been without internet 3 days at home, No email addresses to make a complaint incompetent advisers, try Hyperoptic if they are in you're area. hyperoptic.com/

And the other side of the coin....

I've been with virgin for about 3yrs now, initially on 100Mbps (always got 110), this was doubled to 200Mbps (always got 220!!)
Didn't need so much speed so dropped to 100Mbps package and never get less than the full 100Mbps...in all the time I've had it I think maybe it's disconnected twice!....

Far better than the 25Mbps max I can get through a BT line.

As with all services, there will always be some happy and some not.

VM was excellent but now its laggy and drops connection every now and then. There was a report in the news saying it was a nationwide problem.

The problem Virgin go for fast speed to boost sales figures rather than quality of the line. Shame really it was boosting the speed that screwed things up.

Yes 3 should be free was for me and I was still in contract brilliant hub especially after being out a year with new firmware updates

oversubscribed in certain areas. tend to fare ok where I live for a couple of months then there is 1-2 months of nightmare with 100Mbit speeds at night and 0.5 - 2 Mbit in the afternoons and evenings. I always give them a ring and get full refund for months when speed is so bad. so far 2months refunded in 2016 and 1 month refunded this year. I pay £19.75 per month for what is supposed be 100Mbit.
