If they're Sky TV subscribers, they can get the Base package for free (2 Meg, but only 2GB allowance each month) as long as they have a Sky Talk package too. The other option is the Mid package which is only £5 a month and gives them an 8 meg connection (40GB a month allowance).

The best deal i found is Talktalk

£17.74 a month for broadband and phone line rental included.

+ easy to set up wireless router. If ordered online free connection 18 month deal.

I was going through the Sky ordering process to find out about this, as they need Sky too after just moving to a different are etc....

All Movies, All Sport and one Variety pack £42 with the free 2GB BB, I thought great...

But when I type in their phone number, Sky says it is not available and I have to add the £17 Sky BB with free calls, bit of a rip off....

I'm on Talk Talk ATM etc but dont have Sky...

That's a shame - of course it depends on the Exchange being LLU for Sky Broadband

Plusnet Value Broadband can be got for £5.99 in some places, which may do for them (10GB limit, 8Mb) They do traffic shaping, but this is unlikely to impact light surfing and email etc.

Do you have a mobile phone contract? You often get free broadband from them, and a reduced price on their bigger packages. Just change your address on the account to your parents.

If they are in a cabled area I would defo say Virgin Media....I think the optical cable is more reliable than any ADSL I have tried.......and unlimited downloads too.....

Then again, I guess there not the type of user that downloads lots of music/video are they?

That's where Cable wins out over ADSL - ADSL depends on a good line quality and a relatively short distance from the exchange. BTW, both Cable and ADSL uses Fibre Optic in their infrastructure.
