The Virgin card is pretty good with 15 Months interest free on balance transfers, I got 6 months interest free on all purchases, you get special prices on the different Virgin companies including 10% off at Zavvi (formerly Virgin Megastores). Also if you are a Virgin Media customer then you can get £40 credited to your Virgin Media account if you tell them your Virgin Media customer number and use the card within 90 days. Check out their website for the details of everything above, but it was easy enough to set up online. The only thing to do is avoid the sales pitch when you call up to activate the card, they will try (as all the others do) to sell you extra insurance, payment protection, etc. but just keep saying you're not interested or don't need it and you're away!

seconded, there is no single best credit card, rather it depends what you are really looking for, whether you can pay off the balance monthly etc.

also, don't forget that you can get quidco for some of the credit cards

i second the virgin card 10% off in zavvi. There are cashback cards if you are going to spend 1000's each month or if you have lots of debt from another card then obviouusly you would want a card that gives you a long period before you get interest on that amount. Amazon is ok if they still do the £15/£10 voucher for your first purchase and then you earn points as you buy stuff but it takes a lot before you see your first voucher. Also sony have a card that gives you points and you get a big bonus amount on your first purchase that gives you enough for an mp3 i think!! Otherwise go and look in quidco and see if you get some money for opening a cc. hope this helps

the lloyds TSB is also an airmiles card which gives you two cards one for aimiles (An American Express visa) and another Mastercard for where they dont take AMEX brilliant way of getting an AMEX card

if you want an amex card you can also get a BA one where you get BA airmiles, plus £45.- quidco (at least that's what it was when i got my)
