Best External Bluray Writer To Rip My Bluray Collection

I have a dell laptop and want to rip my blurays to my laptop hard drive.

I would assume I would need a bluray writer and a external usb one to connect to my laptop?

Where is the most popular best value one about these days which rip blurays pretty easily?

Would I need a powerful laptop to rip these blurays? And would it then be easy to put these onto blank blu ray discs or onto my external hard drive to play back on my lg bluray player?

If you only want to rip the disks to your laptop hard drive you wouldn't need a writer, only a blu ray reader mate.

You'd only need a writer if you wanted to copy the rips onto another disk.

    EDIT
    -------

Just read the 2nd part of your post. I don't have any blu ray attached to my pc but wouldn't have thought it would be a particularly intensive operation. Quite similar to ripping a DVD.

You could rip the blu ray onto the hard drive and then copy the files to another disk, meaning only one drive would be needed.

I would like to see what the price difference between just a reader and a blu ray writer. I think I would more likely go for the writer for future use.

So ripping them putting them onto a blank bluray is pretty easily?

I've never done it myself mate but there appears to be software out there that claims to be able to do it quite easily.

Just be aware that it takes AGES to rip a blu ray considering its lts a far slower reader and about 6 times the data if not more, so say a 3x slower reader and 5 times more data means a lot of time.

When I tried ripping a blu ray to my hard drive before it took about 90 minutes and thats with a Q6600 with 4 gigs ram.

I only have an internal hd dvd//blu ray combi drive so cant be sure and havent burned any discs(still too expensive for me)

Also I can only see single layer blu ray discs and many blu rays can be like 50 gig whereas the blank holds half that so it would be another few hours or more to encode it to fit and lose quality or it will be slightly quicker to just remove features and have the main movie on one.

Get a dual layer writeable disk if you want to burn 50gig of data. They are quite expensive though. And you need a compatible drive.

Reading or writing a blu-ray isn't difficult, optical drives are rather slow by today's standards. If you want to transcode the blu-ray (change it to a different format) then that'll be quicker or faster depending on the speed of your laptop and playing back the blu-ray on your laptop will require a relatively recent laptop.

With external hard drive , you also need one program which powerful in ripping Blu-ray disc to your hard drive, I've tried about Pavtube blu-ray ripper, a nice utility, especially like its function of "Directly Copy", with it, I can copy my tons of Blu-ray movies to an external hard drive, so that avoid being scratched by my little kids. In addition, it adopts advanced audio and video sync tech, which enables you to have high output quality without any audio/video out of sync problems.

    Have a good day!
