Best External Hard-Drive for iMac

I have been thinking about getting an external hard-drive so I can back up my iMac in case anything goes wrong or I need to restore / recover files.

I have been looking at the Apple Time Capsule but at £229 for a 1TB or £379 for a 2TB, they are very expensive.

Can anyone recommend a decent and reliable external hard drive that is compatible with Macs that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money (or failing that somewhere that sells the Time Capsule cheaper!)

I have this 500gb IOMEGA:

I use it as my Time Machine drive and have had no problems with it (a year old now).
The styling matches the bushed metal of my macbook pro (although the light is a little bright).

Most, if not all, external drives are mac compatible, they might just need re-formatting first.
The nice thing about the Time Capsule is that it can be wireless but then again if you're using it with an imac, you wont be moving it around much lol
