Hi all, just wondering what the best deals are at the mo, tried to get o2 but they need a BT line, and I've got Virgin Media.... Thanks

then get virgin media's internet, anything else other than mobile broadband would involve a BT line again.

But its too expensive, when you see some deals like o2. Just wondering if there are any alternatives...

well if you rent a BT line, thats what? like £11.99 per month, then add in your broadband connection, which is an ADSL connection and depending on your house distance from the exchange, you may not be getting the full speed you are paying for.
plus the lower tiers often have monthly download limits.

Unless you get a BT line then your stuck with Virgin there are no other alternatives down their cabled service.

They can, but they charge a fortune for it (then they only get BT to do it anyway and pay them) and they would only do it for free if you are taking out a silly large amount of services with them to make it worth there while.

If the op was to get the full SKy works (TV(full package),Line Rental and Broadband) then i'm sure they would probably get the line put in/activated for them

openreach install lines and look after the network, BT is a service provider same as all the companies listed above.

BT will charge you 11.54 a month just for the landline, plus a connection fee

talk talk BB from their page inc landline rental from BT is
£20.48

you can have virgin 10mb fibre optic DSL ( way better than ADSL) for £20 without a landline or £24.50 with

I had BT before virgin media, could I reactivate that line? How much would that cost?

It may be free, does a dialtone still exist on the line?

Reactivation would be free but you would be tied into a 12 month contract with BT

i have a BT landline thatd been de-activated since i moved to virgin. using my address details on the BT website a reconnection is £124.99

just ring virgin on 150 and tell them you want bb but its too expensive for your budget and see what they offer you.

its a better more reliable fibre optic connection

Its free as long as an engineer visit is not required. i did mine last december. Normally if your house is connected to the telegrapgh pole and you have a Square BT socket then that should be enough to fulfill the criteria

you have sky hd but a virgin media phone line?
then it'll probs cost you the £124.99 to go back to a BT based line and depending on how long you've been with virgin, you may incur a cancellation fee

But I though O2 for example, use the bt line to provide their service, so cant I pay them to activate the line, so I'm in a contract wwith them?

newbie1001;8624463

It is yes. But openreach was set up in agreement with ofcom to allow all service providers (big or small) equal access to the BT copper network. BT retail gets no special treatment from openreach, I would go as far to say that LLU providers get preferntial treatment due to the compensation openreach has to pay to them in the event of fault that is not cleared in 36 hours.

If you are out of your 12 month contract with sky give em a nudge and say you are looking for 1 supplier and if Sky cannot meet your needs then you may have to look at switching your TV to Virgin. It may work and they may get you a line for free.

You would be in contract with both BT and O2.

uswitch.com/bro…nd/

use your postcode details

02
£7.50 a month if you're on O2
£12.50 a month if you aren't
plus your line rental of anywhere between 9 and 12 quid.
so if you arent O2 mobile customer, its only marginally cheaper than virgin for a less reliable service!

Well virgin media says the min they caqn do for me is 23 a month, and when looking at deals like o2 whcih would be around 17 a month for phone + broadband, i'd say thats how much tbh

Not always true i would say i've had more downtime on Cable than i have had over ADSL. Also through the day my 4MB connection blows away Virgins superfast 10MB due too their FUP. It all depends on what you really need or can get to whether an ADSL or Cable is more viable.

Come December when my BT/o2 contacts finish i can then really explot the market with offers etc as the supply where i am is so varied something i could never do with Virgin as they knew they had me over a barrell.

you got fobbed off too easily.

I pay VM £18.99 per month for 10mb BB, line rental and talk weekends.
