Best laptop deal atm? Dell Studio 17 Core i3 1GB ATI 5650?

The missus wants a laptop to play The Sims 3 on cos she's fed up having to sit in the corner on a desktop every time she wants to play lol..

I've been having a look over the past week or so, and come to the conclusion that Dell offer the most consistent bang-for-your-buck in the laptop department, so I've been keeping my eye on them..

However, most of you lot are far better bargain spotters than I, so I was hoping for your opinions..

Should I just go for this:

    dmxdimension.com/rec…902

Is that already a pretty good deal that is unlikely to be beaten in the next few weeks, or should I hang on and keep my eye on Dell Outlet and dmxdimension as better deals than this tend to pop up?

For those who are linkophobic, the details are:

    Intel Core i3-350M 2.26Ghz
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
17.3" High Definition (1600x900) LED TrueLife
    3072MB RAM
    320GB HDD
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
    £629 incl. VAT & delivery

That's a little bit more than I was hoping to spend (I had given myself an upper limit of £600) but tbh it looks like a decent spec. for the money so I'm happy to go with it..

If y'all were in the market for a laptop, would you just go with the above, or do you think it's worth holding out for a couple of weeks to see what pops up? I defo want to buy it in the next fortnight or so, but I'm happy to hang on if the general consensus is that this isn't a particularly spectacular deal..

    Cheers, hombres..

edit: removed bbcode as apparently it doesn't work :o/

Seems a lot of money to be able to play the Sims.

Does the Sims need a 1Gb graphics card, or do you expect to play other games ?

This is an Inspiron at £449 that has the same CPU, same memory, slightly smaller hard disk, and a 17" screen.

I am not a gamer so no idea if it can play the Sims

    .

I cant offer you any deals cause im at work and dont have time to look. But I know you can spend A LOT less than £600+ on a laptop of its mainly for the Sims 3.

Good thing about the Sims games is that they run on very low spec systems. In fact I'm sure my mates sister plays it on an onboard GFX processor.

i'd like the flexibility in case i do ever decide to, but tbh i probably won't play other games.. i installed Portal on my imac when they gave it away for free, and whilst i really enjoyed it i have never returned to it since that first time i fired it up months ago! i dunno, playing games on a computer feels weird to me, i prefer to keep that stuff to games consoles..

however, i want to future proof it against all the inevitable sims 3 expansion packs that are bound to come out..

it only has onboard intel graphics, which will probably struggle to run sims 3 with anything but the most basic settings, i would imagine.. also, it doesn't look like it has HDMI output, which i would like so i can whack it into the TV and watch downloaded HD content

thanks for the suggestion though, you're the only bügger to reply so far! i'm starting to think i put this thread in the wrong section; i made a similar post in the Misc section last week and it got about 10 replies in the space of an hour lol..

yeah, when the gf first got into sims, she was playing sims 2 with all the expansion packs on my cuffy onboard nvidia 6150! this was on low settings though, and it slowed down if a lot was going on.. i stuck an 8600 in there and she really appreciated the difference, so i'd like to get her something half decent so she can play it with all the settings turned up

or am i way off the mark here? is the one i linked in the OP just massively overkill? my main requirements are:

    large screen
plays sims 3 + all future expansions smoothly
    HDMI output

everything else is just gravy, i guess!
