Best laptop for £450??

7
Found 27th Oct 2008
I'm after a new laptop and have a budget of £450. So far the best i've found is this one:

comet.co.uk/sho…on2

Anyone got any thoughts on if this is any good, and how the AMD compares to Intel in the processor department.

The reason i'm looking at Comet is that I have some vouchers, but any other good deals would be nice!!

Thanks in advance.

If i'm reading this right, the processor is a bit … If i'm reading this right, the processor is a bit carp.http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/mobile-cpu-charts/Xvid-1-1-2,493.htmlAnd...http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

Cheers for the response, will the 3gb of RAM and 256 dedicated graphics combat the not so decent processor?

The processor is fine, sure it could be faster but a 0.2GHz bump-up wouldnt be noticeable and thats all you're going to get for around the same price.

Those 'dedicated' graphics are going to struggle themselves with anything remotely demanding.

But if you're doing anything really demanding you probably wouldn't be buying a £450 laptop, and the 10-20% disadvantage the turion has over an equivelent Core 2 mobile isn't going to be noticible in normal use.

The laptop you linked to does have pretty poor battery life.

I got this spec for £477 inc VAT and delivery from Dell Outlet at the begining of September
I thought it was an awesome spec - Notice the processor!
Although it is from Dell Outlet, it came brand new untouched
I was very happy with it and am currently running COD4 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 easily on its graphics card.
Some extras which I was happpy with was : bluetooth and a webcam

Yeah, I got a fantastic deal on a Desktop in April that consisted of a E8400 CPU, 8800GT GPU for the same price as amzmalhotra, it's worth looking ther.

It will mainly be used for SQL server 2005 / 2008 stuff, no gaming really as have a 360 for that!

I guess this one will cope with that sort of stuff alright?
