Best leads to use for picture quality

Please can someone give me a bit of advice.

I've recently bought this dvd player digitaldirect.co.uk/pro…fi=

    and this tv digitaldirect.co.uk/pro…483

and I wondered which leads I should use to get the best picture quality. I've not got HD on the Sky box, so I'm just trying to get the best picture quality for 'normal' Sky tv. I've noticed when watching a dvd that occasionally, you see a ghost image of the channel number of one of the other AV channels floating across the top of the screen, so I'm assuming that it's because I need better leads?

    Any advice much appreciated

    HDMI one

So, to be clear on this, you can see what the Sky box is outputting via SCART when you're watching a DVD also by SCART?

If that's the case, it would seem unusual for cable cross-talk to cause that. I'd be more inclined to suspect that you have something odd going on with your cabling setup (are you feeding the DVD player and Sky box into a switchbox before connecting it to the TV, or are you routing the two cables through a VCR or something?) or a faulty circuit inside the TV than a problem with the actual cables.

The easiest work-around for the issue would be to connect the DVD player by HDMI. Clicky: ebuyer.com/pro…510 for a reasonably cheap DVI cable.

It's not the Sky picture I'm seeing. I've got a poor digital tv signal here and without using the sky box, the tv cant find any digital channels. As I've got sky, I'm not bothering to pay for a booster on the ariel, so what I'm seeing a ghost of, travelling across the top of the tv, is the 000 on the tv channels that don't work, before you switch to AV1 for sky, AV2 for dvd etc.

I'll certainly order a HDMI cable though. Hopefully that should make a noticable difference to the picture quality and stops the floating '000'

also, not using one of those scart selector boxes, and sky box and dvd player are connected to tv with seperate, old, scart cables.

Thanks to you both for your advice

It sounds like a problem with the scart leads you are using. Have you not got any others to try? As the others have said, for your DVD player, make use of the better picture quality and use HDMI.

Hopefully the problem isnt TV related!

I was hoping it was the scart leads, as they're as old as my nan. Well, almost :giggle: I was expecting a lot better quality picture for the money I paid, especially as it's supposidly a good tv. Just ordered a couple of the HDMI cables, so will have to wait till they arrive to see if it makes much of a difference as they're the only scarts I've currently got.

Has your sky box got HDMI? Thought you said it was not HD?

Think you will need one scart and one HDMI?

It's not HD, but I found a HDMI cable where one end was a scart shaped connection and the other end was normal, so thought I'd get one and see if it worked as it was only a fiver. If it was along the lines of £30 odd like some of them I've seen in the high street shops, I'd have been a bit less inclined to 'see if it fits'

Will do. They are due to be delivered on Thurs, apparantly, so I'll let you know. If you want to get yourself some, I used the link provided further up this thread. they are a really good price on there and you get a choice of a few different lengths. Fingers crossed for us both this is the answer to our problems

Got the leads through and have to say, there's not a blinding great difference in picture quality (but then I don't know if I should have been expecting one as I'm still not using HD, just put the leads on the dvd player) but I haven't seen the floaty ghosty things going across the screen, so at least that's been solved.

And in English....? :giggle: :-D Is that the actual name of a set of leads

if you are experiencing ghosting from an analogue channel when you are watching a scarted source, select an analogue channel that is not tuned in i.e. a blank screen or sparklies, before choosing the scart input - this should 'bust' any ghosting!
