Give it a few days before you update to CFW, it's not playing backups yet but wil be any day now. Also you'll want to wait for the release to stabilise.

Is it possible to change back from the CFW?
On my media ps3, I have 3.55-jb, need to do a bit of experimenting. Can I for example install the FBANext pkg the ftp pkg and the file manager pkg, then restore to official 3.55 and keep those programs? And if I did the above on my main ps3, and restored back to offical FW, there's no way it could get banned?
Depends I suppose if the PS3 will recognise the official FW as an update, or whether it says "the latest version is already installed". Will check it out

You're already well ahead of me. I'm waiting for a full CFW release before I start delving deeper and trying it out. I'm just using 2x 3.41 JB PS3s at mo.

Right - I am in (with the file manager and also with the ftp program)

Where do I put stuff??? I have found out the path for roms on the neo geo. (Needed to edit the xml file to get them to show up though)

Is there a place to put codecs, and will putting codecs in (ie beezles xbox megapack) mean I can play all avis and rm files etc etc from the main video menu

Big question now is do I put a large HDD in now or mess around with the 80gb one, fill it, then have to start all over again.

BTW - can't "update" back to offical sony 3.55 so am not touching my main machine in case Sony can detect it. From what (little) I know it is undetectable, just adds "install pkg" to the games menu.

Do you think 3.60 will block any homebrew, or once it is signed and on there is it "just another PS3 game" to the PS3 and therefore undetectable

nothing like that exists yet

if you're going to be pirating games, you'll need a new hard drive. 80GB won't last long -- consider that you need to store the disk files AND the game installation on the hard drive

Do you think 3.60 will block any homebrew, or once it is signed and on there is it "just another PS3 game" to the PS3 and therefore undetectable
When you boot your ps3, it uploads a list of games you have run to Sony. It send the games ID number.. homebrew doesn't have a valid ID number by default (a stupid oversight by developers in my opinion) so the invalid ID will be uploaded along with the other IDs of real games you've run from disk.
The fail0verflow team declared the new package signing exploit won't be able to be fixed. If this is the case, I imagine Sony will resort to banning. It's even been suggested Sony could disable your console entirely.. they reserve the right to in the T&Cs, but obviously it'd cause them big legal problems so I doubt they'd go that far. Expect banwaves, à la Microsoft

daft question...but on the xbox, u can transfer games to its hard drive then play them from the hard drive (with the disc in the console), can u do the same on the ps3? None of my consoles are jailbroken.

Yes, you can but only with a jailbroken console. Most games can be installed to the hard drive.. some of them will run without a disk in the drive, some need a disk (but it can be any ps3 disk)

how safe is it to jailbreak it? bearing in mind i play online with it...

Ban the machine, or the user ID? Would it be risky to sign in weith my user ID on my jb ps3? (I'm taking it as yes, but it would be handy to have my PSN games on there). All in all, it's pretty much worse a case scenario, and there's no point me updating my main machine. BTW not bothered about pirating games, just using my jb model as a media centre, so can always use external HDD.

Flop.

Stop being so lazy and expecting everyone else to do the hard work for you. There are plenty of guides / info / opinions out there already, why not try and use them but to then to be rude and tell someone else to start their own thread when they asked questions, more neck than a giraffe.
