Best National Lottery Scratch Cards

Hi,

I have been doing the lottery and euro millions for months now and not really gotten anywhere and I was thinking that once I month I would buy a scratch card instead of lottery.

I know both is a muggers game but kinda want to be "In it to Win it".

Does anyone have suggestion on the best scratch card you could get? I guess its about the odds / price ratio possibly?

In b4 'the winning type'.

They're kind of all the same. Most have similar odds on similar values, and if one had better odds than the others, then everybody would be doing them.:)

Don't buy them personally, but I know that the national lottery website has a list of their scratchcards and the number of top prizes remaining. It might be worth taking the info on that page in to consideration when buying a scratchcard.

personally I find the £2 and £3 variety better than the others

I once bought a £2 scratch card and won £2 so I bought 2 x £1 scratch cards and won £2. I decided I was better off keeping the £2..

Just pure luck IMO. I know a family member of mine once done a one off £10 one and luckily won £500.

Then again I was speaking someone else about them and this lady said to me purchases 5x£1 most days and then told me she once won £25. Do the maths lol

Thanks for the response Yeah maybe I should look at something else to spend my few quid a month on

The odds they print on the back are when the game was introduced (the standard £100,000/£250,000 ones have been around a LONG time so the odds of winning will be greatly reduced).

Go for the newest ones as you have the best odds of winning something.

Fact: You have more chance of being struck by lightning TWICE than winning the lottery.

Pure chance/luck, ive been fortunate enough to win £1000 on two separate occasions- both on £5 scratchcards.

Put your lotto money in a jar and when you reach £100 buy some premium bonds.

After working with the National Lottery for over 6 years now, thanks to running a Post Office, i find more and more people seem to be switching from the standard lottery to the hotpicks and scratchcards as sales are extremely high this year.

If you are going to buy scratchcards i would always look out for the new games when they arrive, i see a lot more winners in the first few packs. But at the end of the day, its all about luck.

Why dont you put your money into NSI premium bonds if you want to gamble them. You effectively get to put your money into a lottery every month to win upto £1million and smaller prizes, but if you dont win, you still keep hour money!

They basically use the interest on all premium bonds to generate the prizes.

Yep that's the one. Your money is 100% guaranteed (by the British government) so you'll get it back when you want to cash your bond in.

You buy a bond for £1: can be done online, post office etc. You have to hold it for a month THEN it goes into a raffle at the start of the month. I.e. I would buy then on payday 31st Oct, then they would BE HELD for Nov then go into the drawer on 1st Dec. If I bought on 2nd November, I would miss the 1 Dec draw and have to wait until 1 Jan. :-)

Smaller prize is £25, largest a million. Every month you hold the bond, in it goes to the drawer! You can hold a maximum of £30,000 in bonds ( so 30,000x tickets each month) and if none win. You STILL keep your money!

So if you have £30,000 in a bank, you may earn 2% over the year so £600... But that's the gamble, so you risk the £600 for 360,000 lottery tickets to win £1million over a year :-)

Now what's better ticket value at £1 a scratch card or these!?

I once got a whole reel of them when I shop went bust, they were worth nothing as they are only active when scanned, scratched through them and the odds were rubbish, only like 10% were winners and small prizes only like the cost of ticket nothing big.

Do you mean 30,600 tickets?

I have an old Cash Isa with NS&i and wanted to transfer that from there to a premium bonds but because its such an old account, I have to write (yep write, not email) my details to them in order for them to give my money back and THEN go get bonds. What a primitive way of doing things.

Though I really Like the Premium bonds Idea and I think this is where I am heading

Most scratch cards are about 1 in 3.45 odds and doesn't differ much. I buy a few here and there but prefer to play roulette on my phone with a tenner instead when I want a cheap thrill. Put £1 on ten different numbers and win £36 or lose it all. Better than buying two £5 scratch cards when the chances are you'll only win your money back, double it at best or most likely just lose it! Every street has a shop that sells scratch cards near enough or not far from one so chances of winning big depend on you choosing the right location and scratch card! Pretty much impossible. Probably more fair to play online cards.

Gala casino now has live roulette (I think the automated one is set up always lands on numbers I usually choose but change at last minute! ) on mobile and they pay instantly once you're set up and running. Usually I get my winnings back in my account before the payment to them has cleared my account! - don't accept any bonuses though as you'll end up not been able withdraw winnings. Even if it's a case of £10 a month you either lose it or win £36 or play red or black and double it better overall chance than scracthcards but maybe more addictive lol
