Best option to get from Dublin to mainland/liverpool?

Friends of mine were meant to be flying in from NY to Manchester but with the ash they are getting diverted to Dublin.

Getting in on Saturday morning, what are the options given that flights are no doubt ruled out until after the weekend?

I assume Ferry is all that is left? Liverpool the nearest option? Any ideas on how often they go, from where and how much they cost?

irish ferries or p&o ferries go from liverpool to dublin or Dun loaghaire which is just outside dublin. it should cost you about £50 return if your a foot passenger. Have a good one!

    You can always swim...:whistling:

They will probably have to go holyhead in wales with stena line. They are sold out tomorrow but theres one at 08.20 on sunday and its £26 for a single. You'll have to be quick all the others are sold out…t=Y

They can try and book a rail and sail from Dublin Ferry Port to Liverpool which is £27.50 for a ECS, we usually just give them a boarding card from the stations but we can't check if there are spaces on the actual ferries.

Dubin to Liverpool is 8hours on the ferry. Holyhead is usually 2-3 hours.
My son has just managed to travel back from Dublin via ferry to Holyhead. He is on the train now to Crewe then to Derby and back to East Midlands airport to collect his car! Could have been so much worse, at least there was the option of sea travel.

The rail and Sail is just that it's the ferry to Holyhead and the train to Liverpool it's an all in ticket

thx anyway, moot now though. They had them all sat on the plane and then Dublin closed airspace again, everyone off.
