    Best oven cleaning product ??

Hi all, can anyone recommend a good cleaning product for a filthy oven ?

    Elbow Grease.

Have you thought about getting it professionally cleaned? Probably costs a lot less than you'd expect. The place where my Mrs works had their oven done a couple of weeks ago and it cost about £40-£50. She reckons it looks like new now.

a woman is the best product for cleaning an oven

in all seriousness what about mr muscle.......loves the jobs you hate

Most of the ones available in supermarkets will do the job.

Can I just say that if you cleaned it after you use it - you wont get that build up. I would puke if someone served me up dinner thats come out of a filthy oven.

How much?! Have it cleaned 3 times and you could have bought a new one!

think its called ovenpride there is a deal put up by someone today for it in asda for about £2 0r £3 .You just shove all the trays in a bag pour in some chemicals and leave it for a while, its really good stuff.

Oven pride, and my mother.....perfect combo for cleaning mine

Off the shelf stuff is fine if it's not too dirty. If it hasn't been cleaned ever then get a pro in.

Anyone who cleans an oven after every use must have OCD!!!

    An oven @ £149.99

You are probably relating to a Cooker?
Obviously would depend on what the OP has, but the new place I am moving into, my Mum's place and the last place I lived have all had integrated ovens, thus that is what I think of when I think of an oven. Also cheaper if one unit breaks, ie the oven on a cooker breaks making the hob although still working redundant.

Yes. You get the cleaning fluid for it and it gives you bags for you to leave your racks in. It really is the business.

Ah right. The one that came with our house was about £500 in Comet and was the cheapest they do. I would have expected them to be more than £150 though.

    +1

Ive tried MR Muscle, Oven Pride, all the usual supermarket rubbish. Lakeland oven mate while a little more pricey is great. (and I asked the same question as you and the house wives/husbands at work offered me the same solution so I am mearly passing on there wisdom)

But if you have left your oven to get really bad its gonna take alot of elbow grease aswell - theres no real quick fix unless you get it steamed cleaned.

Obviously that is the cheapest one you can usually get, although did see one for £129.99 in B&Q before...although it was unbranded!
The one we have in our new place when our purchase finalised is £279.99 from B&Q by Zanussi and the hob is around £150 I believe so £430 total, not far off your oven. just separate integrated units.

Neither do I really...just changed my Mum's for her a couple of times, and for some reason know what comes fitted at my new apartment! Although on that note I could tell you we have 'Manhattan' white gloss kitchen units with 'Black Brazil' worktops and even a Vitra Milton fitted bathroom! ;-)

Ha ha. They did tell me what the units and that were but I paid zero attention.

Anyone have a self cleaning oven? Don't they nuke the oven at high temperature to turn crap to ash??

They never told us, even on the first showing they just let us in and showed us around saying the basics, but was never pushy and didnt actually tell us much about the place really. The second and third viewing she handed us the keys and let us take ourselves into the next block and let ourselves in and just to 'post the keys back through her door'!

Was nice though as we could have a proper look around, and measure up, and even put down masking tape to try and get an idea of size of furniture etc.

Self cleaning oven? That sounds like heaven!

But at 165°F / 75°C majority of bacteria die leaving some spore-forming bacteria to survive, thus I most cooking is done at a minimum of 300°F / 150°C which kills is above the food sterilisation temperature of 250°F / 120°C.

This was going to be my point but couldn't be bothered to get the facts on what temperatures bacteria can withstand.

Well I knew roughly what the limits were as I have taken a Food Safety and Hygiene Course (thank you boosyboots :p) and thus why our warmer at our Golf Club had to only be kept at 80°C to ensure most bacteria couldnt survive...same as chip shop warmers as well

Actually I knew the 75 figure off the top of my head and 120 for sterilisation, however had to covert everything which took longer! and had to check my figures...didnt want some troll proving me wrong!

Yes do you need to wipe bums more??

The purpose of hygiene is to kill harmful bacteria. Your oven does a pretty good job of that, I'd say high temperatures are more effective than Dettol.

There are two extremes here, those that let their ovens get caked in filth and those who clean them after every use. Mine is about 5 months old, it's had a couple of wipes with a damp cloth but that's all. I have a tray at the bottom to catch spillages and I clean the baking trays, roasting dishes etc out after every use and that's more important as it actually touches food.
