Best place to buy house removal boxes/packs from?

I'm moving in 3 weeks time from a 1-bedroom flat to a rented room. I'm going to get some 60l plastic boxes but also need those cardboard removal boxes for some of my stuff. Have asked for them on freecycle but no luck yet.

Can anyone recommend the best place to buy good quality ones. I've read the review on the ones on Argos but it has mixed reviews.

    Thanks for any help given

We ordered some online and they ended up being pretty crap so I went to Costco and a staff member helped me get the best and biggest boxes and he also helped me get them into the car (wasn't even a member at that time)

Went to Sainsburys and got them to save boxes for us and we must have had over 30 boxes, this was 2 years ago

Can't remember if that is the exact seller we bought from, but the boxes we bought from ebay were solid, strong and good sizes.

hello fern37 like you i also asked on freecycle and hit it lucky a manager from thelocal co op messaged me back with the offer of all the boxes i wanted banana boxes aswell really good sturdy ones so i would ask in your local supermarkets to try save some pennies

I moved from London to Devon from a 2 bed flat had tonnes of stuff. I just visited all the stores in my local area and got tonnes of free boxes. Get your self some duct tape and get them for free! I also see people selling / giving away boxes they've brought to move house on places like gumtree and free cycle x

you really need to ask about all local warehouses have big skips out side them just for cardboard it cost them to fill um just ask if you can take some most places say yes then there is supermarkets and corner shops.

My biggest problem is that I have no transport to go round the stores picking them up. That's why I am looking a bulk lot.

Thanks for all the links so far and advice....I will look into them all.

Not coming up with anything for them. Do you have an item number?

If you are using a removal company they will supply boxes for you - some may ask for a deposit which is refundable once boxes returned; if you want to keep some they will charge accordingly. Don't buy from companies such as Argos- way too expensive! You will get decent boxes from self-store companies who will sell them to you even if you aren't storing with them. Also, check if there are any box manufacturers in your area, they may sell small quantities as well as larger ones. If you are hiring a van some self drive firms hire out boxes. Remember you will need blankets and straight paper too (that's the sheets of white paper used for packing china, etc. If you need bubble wrap don't buy small quantities as it will cost a fortune - Homebase have a 30m roll of greenhouse insulation which is...bubble wrap! It's on offer right now at £12.49. For free boxes try asking on Gumtree, often people want rid of them after moving. Good luck with the move!

Oh, and remember to get plenty brown tape for your boxes, and a decent marker pen!

fern where abouts are you needing the boxes, as might be able to put you in touch with somebody who could help.

If you don't want to put it on here PM me.

I'm In Cardiff. I'm moving to Glasgow and there is a company up there who are going to be in Europe and are picking my stuff on the way back so getting boxes off them is going to be tricky. Some of the ones on eBay look good.

Oh...just found a packing kit more suited.

    Edinburgh...:)

Lidl are selling them from the 7th i think! Cheap also!

Seriously fern, you might be better of with these and a load of bubble wrap. http://www.randjbuildershardware.co.uk/heavy-duty-builders-rubble-bags.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=COTw7IGA0bQCFTDMtAoddD4AYA

Not saying they're the cheapest, I'm just suggesting it. You can get 50 for about £15 delivered on ebay.

Or you could go to your local McDonalds/any shops really and ask them to collect some for you

Edit: Just make a donation to charity for them!

Just flash your legs at the Argos manager and get some discount lol..

The big bags at Ikea are brilliant for moving, bought 10 large ones and they did such a fine job I sent my OH to buy some more, unfortunately she bought the small handbag sized ones which were not so good.

ask your local pharmacies, they do get medicines in deliverd in big boxes which are fairly sturdy, and would be easy for you to pick up

The Hill company. We use them at work.
