Best place to get a cheap powerful desktop PC

I have a good monitor and mouse and keyboard just looking for a powerful PC.

Any ideas where to start. Should i just get a dell one?

    Or build my own?

I'm in the same boat, so will watch your replies with interest.
    Good luck!

    build your own

Go to your local little computer guy.
he can build it for you to whatever spec you want.
My brother got one with all the bells and whistles on for about £100 cheaper than the same spe at Dell

In which way does it need to be powerful, what sort of demanding software will you be using it for?

will be running photoshop CS4 and more than likely 2 or more other design programs at the same time.

I'd like it to be future proof for like 5 years too

    build it yourself

i just built my first PC, just did a bit of research for the parts & how to put it all together.

    here's my PC spec's:

    Case: Antec 300
    Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
    CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz
GPU: ATI (Powercolor) HD 4870 1GB
    RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) Dominator 1066MHz
PSU: Corsair 750w 12v Single Rail
HDD: Seagate Baracuda 500GB SATA II *32mb cache*

    all cost under £700

you'll have to add around £50 to include postage, keyboard/mouse, speakers.... if u dont already have some.
    & £70 for Vista OEM (32Bit) / £95 for Vista OEM (64Bit)

If interested I got some ddr3 memory that cost £150 nearly in ebuyer I can let you have them for £75?

Might be worth looking at the 'Ultimate' desktop comparisons via PC Checker ]here if you are not wanting to go down the build your own route.

They have just updated the sites looks (much better now) and there are some really good, reconditioned deals at Dixons and PC World every few weeks which you couldn't build for the money (including the Vista licence).
