Best place to take car to get a service?

My 10yr old ford focus is due an interim service. I normally just go to kwik fit to get it done. I'm pretty sure it needs new brakes and maybe new exhaust too.

Where do you normally go to get your car serviced?

I took my car to Kwik Fit for an MOT on Thursday and when it left the power steering had stopped working. Not just a coincidence. I took it back and told them they are fixing it and I am not paying for it. They fixed it within seconds.

I wouldn't ever go back to them.

Oh, that's not good. I have used kwik fit quite a few times in the past and they have always seemed pretty good and competitively priced.

Local garage ftw, use this if you dont know any

Oh and don't use kwikfit they say something needs replacing when it doesn't they were on watchdog a couple of months ago

    Other half does it...

I do it myself, the joys of being a mechanic. I hate doing my own service/repairs, but it's amazing how many mates you have when their car goes wrong !!!

    This^
I always use our local garage who are in the Good Garage scheme and they are very good - plus if you go local they get to know you and your car and then can often fit you in at short notice if you forget your MOT or anything ...!

thats true, we are Good Garage scheme members & go that little bit extra, but unfortuantly you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time or summit like that !

servicingstop.co.uk/boo…tml. These collect and deliver anywhere you want, home or work, and car comes back cleaned, try these for a price to compare others against. They use local garages.

I know....people like that with my other half

I use our local garage. Been with them through 3 cars over 5 yrs! They are fab. They know me by 1st name, I know them all by 1st name ( this was due to being there over 8 times in 2 months with a dodgy scenic!) But they are a great garage.

I can literally drive into their place with a problem and they will try their hardest to check it over there and then to get me to come back another day. Like when my petrol was leaking.

Plus with the good friendly service I have always been shown in that place has made me go back time and time again. Its good for the customers and business xx

In N Out, is usually good.

Avoid national autocentres, their terrible - if its cheap then sometimes they just treat your car like a pile of sh*t

    Good garage scheme seems interesting.

Ultimately any garage in the world has the potential to be basically criminally corrupt, as they get to diagnose then list off what you need to pay through the nose for.

I wish there was an independent list of mechanics, have a good look at your car, sign off on what is needed and/or wrong.

Then any garage that exaggerates or adds to that list unnecessarily for profit is basically investigated for potential fraud and criminal charges.

Wishful thinking on my part though

Have a look here ATA, Automotive Technician Accreditation. I am a member myself, unfortunately there is nothing in law to say you have to be registered, but it does help when customers are looking for reliable & honest mechanics.

Assuming they have mechanics any car drivers insurance and you go to your local one, what would the hourly rate be?

If you want competitive quotes on plumbers, sparkies, chippies etc, they all compete for your business, garage's seem to believe they have some kind of right to overcharge you just because you've parked on their property, it's astounding arrogance, I would love the car service industry to be forced to properly compete.
