best price wireless router and network adaptor package

    Hiya guys!

My mums laptop will be arriving soon and she wants to be able to use the laptop anywhere around the house. I've just been to PC world and the salesman tried to flog me a d-link router and adaptor for I think it was £80?

I know this isnt a great price, so your mission, if you wish to accept it, is to find me a cheapish but good wireless router and network adaptor.

    Thanks for the help guys

    Don:thumbsup:

There's a good chance the laptop will have wireless built in so you might only need a router. I'm after one myself at the moment and been told that the Linksys WRT54GL is a good choice if on cable. Around £40 I think!

Thanks thunderbolt. The laptop is wireless enabled, but my computer isn't lol so i would use the adaptor. Also might need an adaptor for the 360. hmmmmm

If you have the modem wired to your main PC you could have the router wired up meaning one less adapter to buy.

As for which to buy, I'd consider scan.co.uk site. Admittedly I use it as it's fairly local and so don't pay post but the help staff there are ace in my experience!

Are you on DSL or ADSL?

Thanks for the replies guys. Will check that site thunderbolt.

Beerman - Think its ADSL, as at the moment im connected using the BT Voyager 100 USB ADSL Modem

Ok mate, then make sure you purchase an ADSL router/modem and not a DSL one as that would be useless. I was about to buy this one before I got that one from the sale section on here:
    ebuyer.com/UK/…654

It looks a very good piece of kit and from the reviews is easy to setup. I still fancy it myself but have took the plunge on the D-link. There are plenty of adapters to choose from here:
    ebuyer.com/cus…rue

Please note that if you buy the modem and adapter together and it comes to £49.99 or more you get free delivery if oyu choose the super saver option, it says five days but they normally arrive in 4.

Thanks beerman, looks like a nice cheap router by the looks of things. I have found myself however trusting the reviews on websites less and less ever since i saw the reviews peter and jordan's single got on amazon!

But thanks for the help/advice will do a bit more research before purchasing. O and thats for the free delivery tip, much appreciated!

Thanks for the heads up altough read one review that said it was a nightmare to set up. Have you got this router/know anything about it?

    Thanks again

Hello mate, I have not got a great deal of knowledge regarding networking and my purchases are off what other people say and trial and error really, so can't really comment on most products.

all I can say is some people's nightmares are an ease for others...I have set up Netgear and Linksys without problems

    like this one

However someone asked me to setup a cheapo one from ebuyer (completely forget the brand) and I failed to the extent that it was returned for refund.

Great value for money, really easy to set up. The software took me right through the installation and I can now check my emails and chat to Friends in Australlia via the internet in the comfort of my arm chair.

This is what was said about the Phillips in the Big pockets review

lol I'm wary trusting these kind of quotes. usually just made up in the PR department!

Going to take the plunge and buy one of them. If they are no good, these companies are usually good on returns arnt they

Which company? I only tend to use Scan, Amazon, Ebuyer and such. Wiht Ebuyer as long as your within 30 days they are normally good. Go over the 30 day period and they are sods to deal with.

    Take a look at dsldepot.co.uk/ind…e=3

All refurbs but top quality the speedtouch 576 is £11.99 + £4 delivery.

    hard to beat

wow wacko, great prices! Have you used them before (are the refurbs in ok condition etc)

    Thanks

Yes delivery is £4 PER ITEM so that can add up when an item is only £1.

Delivery was very fast, items both looked in new condition maybe the cardboard boxes were a little tatty but product like new.

    3 month warranty AFAIR

One of my items stated 2 ADSL filters included but only one in the box.

Still for the money more than pleased.
