Best service to use sending a laptop to Lithuania?

    Hi

I need to send a laptop to Lithuania, i've noticed on most couriors its classed as a restricted item and they wont send it with insurance.

Does anyone know of a service that will send it insured or am i going to have to package well and risk it?

    also.....

i'm stuck on the classification of it as i don't know customs side of it???

    can anyone help?....please

Hi, Have you tried parcel2go...i've just checked there t&c's and can't find anything about laptop restrictions.

Have you sold the item to somebody or are you sending it to family/friends.

Just wanna make sure you're not gonna get scammed if it's an Ebay sale for example.

TNT send either air or road to Lithuania. Its within the EU so does not require any customs paperwork. A very good service.

How long have you had the money? You do realise Paypal can take the money back if the credit card used to buy the goods are "reported" stolen....

Here's how my friend got scammed out of an expensive phone (can't remember which)...
    1) Sold on eBay to UK based buyer
    2) Buyer said they were abroad, and wanted it sent there
    3) Friend sent International Signed For after receiving Paypal payment
    4) Buyer filed claim with Paypal saying item wasn't received.
    5) Friend provided proof - tracking number and receipt
    6) Paypal say that International Signed for is only tracked til it reaches the destination country, not the destination address.
    7) Paypal therefore favoured the case for the buyer
Buyer got money back and a free phone!

May not be the case here, but it's always good to be wary of the scams that do go on.

I sell a lot of website templates, and occasionally do get the odd person who pays with credit card via Paypa and then reports their card stolen to Paypal and then they get their money back - even though it's blatantly obvious they received the template, downloaded it (there's ways of tracking), and in some cases are using it on their live website!

Is it a lot of money because i don't think i'd be too confident about sending it overseas, too many things can go wrong.

Items like that i'd only send to UK as i wouldn't be prepared to accept the loss if it arrived damaged etc

If you go with a big courier company you may pay more but you get a better service and if its not delivered or even delivered late you can claim.

It's not worth the hassle i meant, too many pitfalls,i'd rather just send to the UK.

Obviously if the OP is happy to send there that's all that matters:thumbsup:

Yes i agree with you but using a well known established courier will make all the difference. Proper tracking and the ability to claim.

Also you need to make sure the parcel is insured enough, you might have to pay for extra compensation depending upon the value.

I've charged £50 p&p and i've sent games to various countries before without a hitch and that was just standard airmail!

I've had the cash in my account for few days now as well:thumbsup:

Games is a bit different to a high value item,i'm only trying to point out anything you may have overlooked,i mean compensation for loss etc,it's only 50 quid standard from Parcel2go usually so you will need to pay extra for it to be insured, things to note from their website :

Each Parcel2Go service offers cover for loss or damage only; please check each service definition for the cover available. Standard cover is for £50 per Parcel2Go order; extra cover can be purchased if required.

What is the time scale to submit any claims for loss or damage?
All claims MUST be in the Parcel2Go office within 14 days from the date of dispatch; High Value goods claims must by processed within 7 days of date of dispatch. These time frames are imposed by the Carriers we use and as such we aren’t able to alter these in anyway.

Be very careful Punky, Like Deb says this sounds like a typical scam. Be very careful in fact, especially this time of year. I'd personally contact paypal they will look into it for you, they did with me on something, and i got in writing "That it was safe to post" however i'm sure if anything were to go wrong (this was only a few days ago) they would take the money back and they haven't got the same laws as they don't trade in the UK.
    Be careful.....

Do an advanced search by bidder, see what they ahve been buying recently, is this their usual pattern? Is there address confirmed?

    Refund and walk-away.

If you have a winning bid from an unverified Paypal account in Lithuania … If you have a winning bid from an unverified Paypal account in Lithuania (even if the address is CONFIRMED) for electronic goods, RUN FOR THE HILLS...I am just one of many people I have made contact with now who have been defrauded... Somehow (and this is in the hands of the Financial Services Ombudsman because it seems INCREDIBLY EASY for the fraud to be facilitated time and time again and it's ludicrous that the seller ends up being made ALLEGEDLY liable by Paypal/eBay - read your Paypal small print much???) a fraudster in Lithuania hacks into an eBay and Paypal account, changes the address and details to a PO Box in Lithuania (the same guy is doing it again and again but moving PO Box numbers... currently in Vilinius, shame this can't be simply tagged by the most elementary security system somewhere, eh Paypal/eBay?) and then cleans up by ordering cameras, phones, laptops etc...After the sale, you'll get money credited to your Paypal account and then swiftly removed again (always about 4-5 days later) and then Paypal will start chasing you for the money, saying it's been recredited elsewhere, and you've lost the money, the goods, and paid for the postage to send it to Lithuania.

YES they can it's quite easy as i say feedback doesn't mean anything.

I could order now/receive an item, leave feedback and then contact my CC company in 6 weeks time and say the card wasn't used by me blah blah blah.

A lot of Ebay sellers leave feedback immediately,so it doesn't mean anything, there's nothing to stop a buyer claiming funds back in weeks/months time.

Then the overseas scams get more complicated.

Doesn't common sense tell you that it could be dodgy when they have spent over a grand in a few weeks.

Sellers should remember when they are listing to set it so that no intl bidders can buy/bid on the item.

Sorry to go on,but don't you understand what i'm trying to explain, maybe it's not coming across very well.

A CC chargeback can be made upto 6 months AFTER purchasing something,a Paypal claim can be made up until 45 days after payment.

My point is your buyer has only bought a lot of this this high value stuff in the last few weeks, there''s plenty of time to put claims in.

If you're happy to send then send, just as long as you're aware things can and do go wrong when selling on Ebay.
