best steak cut- ribeye , sirloin , rump ?

    hey there

I was in costcos with the BF and want to know what is the the tastiest steak cut to get for a moist , non to tough steak on BBQ- The choices are ribeye , sirloin or rump.

I want to have a last bbq for the year and I want a steak , but which is the tastiest cut to get ?

BTW its aberdeen angus meat only as I'm fed up with buying steak from the supermarkets that don't even come close to the taste of the AA.

    Anyone?

Fillet is the most tender, sirloin probabyl has more flavour however.

The most expensive steak in a restaurant along with Porterhouse is usually a fillet.

You could always try having it a little bit less well done. The more well done the chewier it is.

lol or just steal his chips and leave the steak to him

    as a general rule:
    Cheap cuts = more flavour
    Expensive cuts = Better texture.

Rib eye would be your best bet. to give you your comination of texture and flavour.

However if you can get hold of some flaked sea salt then you can just cover the steak on one side with salt (i mean a good caking 30 minutes before cooking. wash it off and pat dry and you can turn a cheap cut into a very tender steak. Leaves the steak perfectly salted (as the salt isnt all absorbed only a tiny bit is. it starts to break down the proteins in the meat leaving you with a better texture.

If my girlfriend did that (and still paid for her meal) I would be VERY happy.

Rib eye by far. If you are buying it in costco, try their extra matured Aberdeen Angus rib eye - it's gorgeous!

really cleo - yes we saw the extra matured rib eye ---it wasnt to bad on price either , never tried it though had always gone for rump / sirloin -

i remember going to this steak restaurant called gauchos in the greenwich o2 and it was nothing compared to the steak my bf cooked on the bbq at home- plus the price was much dearer than buying it from costcos

the tastiest out of your options is definately the ribeye - the rump is a close second, sirloin will probably be the least tasty but the most expensive and the tenderest though rib-eye is probably just as tender- it just has more fat running through it (hence the better flavour)
Rump is also very tasty but can be a bit tougher and is is hit and miss regards tenderness - if its really tender its delicious - but must be served med rare, cooked any more and rump is ruined.

yes - i always used to have medium done steak and wondered why the taste wasnt quite there, then i tried med rare and its the best thing ......

it looks like its going to be the ribeye though

definitely ribeye, best matured at least 10 days and the fattier the better as the fat gives flavour, try a ribeye on the bone joint for a lovely sunday roast, sometimes referred to as crop on the bone. yum:thumbsup:
