You're not going to like this answer, but the ONLY straighteners that have ever worked on my curly hair has been GHD's. For years I kept buying cheaper pairs as, like you, I thought the GHD's were far too expensive and overpriced but probably spent more on the cheaper pairs that didn't work (or broke) so I had to buy another pair.

After doing this for a few years I decided to bite the bullet, took out a second mortgage and bought some GHD's and I have to say that you definitely get what you pay for!! They straighten my hair perfectly as if I had poker dot straight hair to begin with and are still going strong nearly 3 years later so on the whole they haven't cost any more than a shed load of cheaper pairs.

If you can manage to beg borrow and steel then I would try and find the money for GHD's as you will wonder why you didn't bother years ago, for people with wavy hair then cheaper straighteners are fine (plenty of my friends do this) but if your hair is seriously curly then GHD's are the only way to go I'm afraid.

babyliss pro 230 hun there great my hair is thick and wavey i hate it and tbh there just as good as my ghds and get hotter if im in a rush i use the pro 230 as they do my hair faster xx

    Agree Babyliss Pro 23o

Can't comment on the above Babyliss straighteners, but they on offer at Amazon.

I think as long as they have ceramic plates and get as hot as ghds then the brand shouldn't matter. The trouble with a lot of the cheaper ones is that they don't get hot enough for thick curly hair

i've got babyliss ones can't remember the model but they are the bronze ones and they are fab, as i have quite thick hair and they work a treat xxx

It might be a big amount to splash out on but my lady bought some GHDs and they have lasted her 7 years...

Fair enough, but depends if you can get into an Argos as the ones at Amazon will be free delivery.

I have Nicky Clarke Radiant Shine ones that I got from Home Bargains they are my first straighteners but maaan do they ROCK I have curly hair I hate but I just use 'em when I'm bored but I am gonna up my budget and get some Babybliss because my aunt has some and she loves them plus the Nicky Clarke ones I only got for 8 pounds sooo why should I complain cheap for my mate;) there usually more anywaayss.....But yeaaah get theem

I use a great hair straightener that works pretty good, it's the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it has tourmaline ceramic plates that cause less damage, it heats up to 460F for all hair textures and keeps my hair soft, shiny and very straight.

I have some Nicky Clark colour protect. all i can say is do not buy them. They were only £30 but have been absolutly rubbish. Only had them a couple of months but need to buy new ones. Supposed to get up to 230 degrees but tbh i doubt it. They dont hold their heat either. you have to wait constantly for them to heat back up.

Babyliss all the way! Never had a problem straightening my thick curly hair. :-)

I don't think the OP will care anymore as she posted this over 5 years ago!
