Best student bank account?

12
Found 12th Sep 2008
Starting uni this year and looking for the best deal that a bank can offer me for my student account. Money Saving Expert says that I should look out for 'the highest overdraft with 0% interest over the longest period of time'. They also suggest Halifax which offer up to £3000, however this varies depending on your credit rating.

Does any one else know of any other good deals?

Thanks in advance!

Post your money's to me, I'll keep it safe

find out which banks have branches either on campus or very near to it, then if there are any problems you can deal with them in person. do you really need a massive overdraft? i'm with natwest, and havent had any problems, plus you get a rail card which comes in useful

I had a look at NatWest, they offer £1250 overdraft for the first year, interest free. The free rail card and £100 off an asus laptop, plus some other little freebies. I need a laptop so the £100 would come in handy, however I dont travel much so I think the rail card wont be much use to me. So far the Halifax account is looking more apealing to me, the £3000 would really come in handy over the 4 years ill be at uni.

Depends what you need. If you think you'll run out of cash, go for the one with the biggest 0% overdraft.

If you think you'll be okay, go for an account with good credit interest.

If you make lots of train journeys home, then you'll find the Natwest railcard a life-saver.

Moved to deal requests.

Not many people get the £3000 overdraft with Halifax and they use it just to pull students in and then offer them a lower one. After reading that Natwest is top of my list.

You will not get the £3000 overdraft until your 4th year at Uni. Even then you may not get it. They will probably start you at £500.

Natwest is the best and yes you get £1250 that I have currently maxed out from my 1st year at uni lol.

I was in the Halifax today and they are offering a student account with a £3000 overdraft limit at 0%apr. This may come in useful for the old beer tokens..

Did they offer you that amount or did they advertise that amount? Apparently they advertise that amount however when it comes to it they offer much less.

I got the full 2750 that they used to do quite easily by just asking in my second year. Don't know if theyve changed it but the disadvantage is you only get it for a year after finishing, i think most of the others step it down gradually. Halifax havent cancelled mine after a year and two months though, i aint gonna tell em

Halifax wouldn`t give dd an account so she is with Nat West.
