Best UK bank account for non UK withdrawals?

Hi all,
Our son has just told us he's going abroad for the summer, working in bars etc.
He will be keeping his money in his account here but will need to make regular withdrawals.
Any idea what's the best bank account to use for this? Free withdrawals abroad?
Thanks, Helen

I mentioned Nationwide and was told they don't have free withdrawals anymore.

If they do that would be just fine. I'll know more when I read up on that Link.

Thanks !

Nationwide, saved me a lot of fees during my gap year over the past year

If he's going to be in Europe, it'd probably be a good idea to set up an account in Euros, say in Spain, that he can easily withdraw money from without any penalties and if he's doing bar work can have his wages put straight into.

Thanks all for your help, it's appreciated.

Just reading about Nationwide and Santander, these look favourite so far.

nationwide current account is what i used when i was in america for 6 months, though the exchange rate is slightly lower than others (if you're making large withdrawals you may be better off just paying the fee)

Also using a credit card you get really good exchange rates, so that's worth considering also

(List of countries nationwide do free withdrawals to is here nationwide.co.uk/cur…htm )

I use a prepaid card] here.

I have a Nationwide Flex account for overseas withdrawals.

Charging has crept in over the years but more due to the cash machine providors, so say $1.50 - $3 per transaction. You still get the bank exchange rate though, so better than the tourist rates.

NW flexaccount

fee free. Just ensure he makes withdrawals specifying EUROS so that the issuing ATM bank doesnt do the conversion to sterling at a much lower rate than NW will
