***Best value Laptop for £500 or less???***

Found 27th Nov 2005
Hi again everyone, i am looking to buy a laptop for my brother for xmas, he wont do much more than play dvd's on it, surf the web through my wireless netgear router and use ms office etc etc, really basic things really. Does anyone know of where i would find a good value laptop for less than £500, if there is one for £400 that's good value, that would be even better, plus points if it comes with laptop bag etc etc but not majourly important, just looking to buy it from a well known company, maybe even one i can go in-store, i hear the dell laptops are good value, is that true?
thanks everyone
Danny =)
Community Updates
now want to update that i want a dell laptop, pentium m a must, not celeron, with at least 512mb of ram, do you really have to have your own business to get a laptop off them at small business prices?
You don't need a business to buy from the small business site, but the terms of the guarantee or service period could be different.

N12137 Inspiron 1300 Has a good spec from Dell but is £619 using the 5% discount code 40QRD85L6J0K3B from the front page 15.4" widescreen, 1.6GHz Pent M, WiFi, 8x DVDRW, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb hard drive, free 720 printer but no free delivery on now.

Earn cashback by using QuidCo 5% at the moment, around £25 from the pre VAT price.

I don't think you'll get a Pentium M for £500 or less from Dell anyway.
ACER TM2413LM. Just for £399.00. Acer laptop with 1.5GHz Intel Celeron M 370 processor, 40GB storage and DVDRW
See at: www.comet.co.uk
Product code 287016.

I hope this is a good proposal.
It's good posted on the front page, but it's a Celeron and very basic. Although you do get a free Vodafone 3g card with it.
...and no wireless card...
Is Staples still selling their IBM R50e for 399.99? It had DVD and wireless AFAIR.
i ahve just seen a belter in tescos extra in store actually, acnt remember the full spec but basically a 1.7ghz intel pentium m, 512mb ddr ram, large hdd etc etc for £599, £100 off, think i might go for that as i get a 3yr warranty, clubcard points and its an acer
just a shame it doesnt seem to be online or i could have used discount codes
I've already supplied one of those Comet Acers to a client who was over the moon with it. No point paying hundreds for capabilities you'll never use Even the Quidco cashback has come through!
