Best way to get rid of scratch on car

Found 26th Sep 2010
Just recently purchased a car & it's got a few scratches on, I've used t-cut but it doesn't make that much difference, some of the scratches are deep.

Anyone know a cheap way of getting rid of the scratches. Want to avoid getting it re-sprayed as that will be expensive.

scratch the rest of the car and then it'l look like its meant to be that way!

C3 Compound... That should do the trick... Don't use too much of it though - just light rubs.

C3 Compound is like a stronger version of T-cut... I had a scratch on my car (after some silly man scraped my car trying to get past) the garage man rubbed that C3 stuff on it & it disappeared. I do intend to buy some myself to keep just incase - but it can't be used to much on the same area.

scratch all around the original scratch

think its called G3 mate not c3

G3 good stuff but it's a coarse paste (cutting compond), dont rub it for too long in one place otherwise you will rub through the paint !

chances are the scratches are too deep for any polish or compound. get a repair kit with filler primer

It is called G3, search for Autosmart, you can also find it on ebay. Ideally, use G3 to 'even out the scratch. When you work the area, apply in small amounts and work lightly in all directions (light circles, horizontally and diagonally) once you removed the scratch, use G2 to remove the light scratches you have made with the G3 to even out the area. Not doing this stage can leave a 'dull' area to the paintwork. Finally, use G1 or t-cut if you want a really good finish and end with a decent wax. Bye bye scratches

Oh, good way to tell if this will work or you need to do something more substantial - wet the area and see if the scratch is still visible, then run the back of your thumb nail lightly across the scratch. If the scratch is 'invisible' when you apply water to the area, and your thumb nail doesn't get 'caught' in the scratch, then this process will get rid of it. Most scratches that don't show up an undercoat are usually scratches in the lacquer and not the paint itself. Most car manufacturers apply a base, a top and a top/lacquer, if not a final layer of lacquer. The main exception being Ferrari who are so obsessed with weight, they have a very fine (but tough) paint job.

thanks all, apart from ryman1000 who's trying to get me blown up oO

glad I could help!!

well if the g3 doesn't work, then I'm only left with your option!

or you could try nail varnish!!

it makes the scratch less obvious

buy a new car if it's bothering you?

goto Halfords and see if you can get a paint match kit. Also I wouldn't bother with those pen/chalk fillers

Phone Chipsaway they do a very good job on these things and are very competetively priced
