    Better Lighting for Photos? Indoors

Hi i need to take some good photos but cant seem to do them. They come out too dark or a little blurred

A friend mentioned a light box. What can i use that will let me take good photos during the evenings, indoors. Lighting in my home isnt good.

    Thanks

A better camera with better low light performance.. ;-)

They call them light tents. Try eBay or Google Products.

Thats the thing. I have a 10mp digital camera. Samsung one and it takes some pretty shocking photos indoors. It might even be me as i am not that camera savy.

Pondering whether to get another camera or not.

Also looked at the tent on ebay but dont seem to understand how they work. Do they reflect lighting inside the tent? Am i meant to put some like a stand light around it so it absorbs the light?

You would set it up like this:

Obviously you could just use normal lamps, although I guess specific bulbs might help.

For a camera, if you want to get the best photos at the cheapest price an entry level dslr is the way to go. If this is too much, stick with what you have ;-)

The products i sell are small. About 30cm wide and 15 high. So i have to usually be very close. I do use the flash, but then being that close makes the image have a shooting star flash print on it lol.

Ive also tried using a lamp but that was just terrible. Running out of ideas. If i stand at a distance, 2 metres away. Photo looks average/good. But i need to be close

Your missing the point of the tent, you fire 2/3 lamps on it, go inside it with your head if you have to, and take your photos. The reason people use them is because the light is even, meaning clear white backgrounds with no shadows.

Yeah, you shouldn't be using flash, you should be using a tripod though. As whatsthepoint says, try Manual mode and metering it all up manually for a better photo. You should be using the lowest zoom possible (0) with an ISO of about 80-200 with that camera.

To take the photos properly, you will need all of these things though, learning how to use your camera settings properly and a decent light tent/box setup. Then you can take photos like this:

Obviously you will only really need a DSLR etc if you want huge prints of the photos. If you are resizing these images for a website for example, then your camera should be fine.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. Am going to try with the tent, lamps and the camera i have for now and see how that pans out.

You can get mini tripods, especially if your camera is a compact one.

    For example:
    http://www.gearlog.com/images/11531.jpg

Then you would set the photo up, set the camera to take photo after 3-seconds, hit the button, move out the way.. *add sound effect here* instant results with no motion blur. You may even be able to turn off the image stabilisation settings the camera might have on by default, this can also improve the picture quality. :-D

Ps. that tripod above is the Gorillapod btw

lol, holiday snaps will never be the same again! :w00t:

Trust me, get a different camera that has good low light shooting ability.

Sadly, Samsung do not make the best camera's, look at Fuji, Panasonic and Canon for good camera's.

Before you go out spending money, why don't you post a few pictures you have taken on here.
Doesn't need to be of stuff you are selling but try and use similar sized and coloured objects if possible.
Also post up some photos you have taken outdoors if they are good.

Post them in this thread. You should get some helpful advice in there.
