Bit of a winge!!! Clarks kids shoes!

    Banned
Just returned from a trip to Thurrock after buying a couple of pairs of kids shoes for return to school next week. (For the kids before someone thinks of a retort on that!)

Anyway, after getting to the till, I was a bit shocked to find the bill was £76. Yes, I know I could have said no and bought elsewhere. As expensive as they were, that wasn't the gripe.

Why is it they are allowed to display the shoes without displaying any prices? They display for adults. I didn't think they were allowed to do this? None of their shoes even had a price sticker anywhere on them - and neither do the boxes they bring them out in.

(Baring in mind adult shoes have VAT added to them, it really shows up how dear these shoes are. Exploitation?)

My guess would be they see your Tottenham shirt and added a few quid on, after all Thurrock is in Essex which is West Ham land

    Seriously though that's expensive, £38 a pair

Must admit that Clarkes kids shoes are one of my little hates. We get our kids measured up, the assitant will say its an "g" width yet when we try the shoes on the "g" width is too tight and they'll say "try the h"....... Whats the point of getting the feet measured properly if the shoes don't fit? and you'll find the expertise of the assistants vary widely....

err whl isn't far from essex. (Is enfield essex or just north london?.. training ground stylee)
I live on the border of essex / cambridge so 45 mins from spurs (closest decent team to my house) and there's tons of spurs fans in my area... Hmm..

anyway, how many pairs of shoes did you buy? seems ridiculous! I remember when i was at school my mum would always have to return shoes as they were either too small by the time school started or after wearing them for 3 times the shoes would be ruined! £75 seems very excessive unless they are good quality / top brands like kickers etc then it might be a fair price...

Hehe. They asked if we wanted any extras and offered a couple of WHU players! I didnt think it was worth the extra fiver!

Yeh, it most certainly is! There is nothing special about them either. (ie no kids toy in the heel or any rubbish like that. Just plain shoes with a velcro strap.)

    Just 2 pairs. One was a 13G, the other a 1H.

To be fair, when we've bought elsewhere, they only last about 6 weeks! (I'm sure mine lasted longer than that was I was at school!)

Strange that. Prices are listed in Doncaster. We have a Clarkes outlet shop as well. Taking both the kids to get their shoes from Clarkes on Wednesday ready for school.
On a side note though. I bought some shoes from Clarkes for myself last week and they are the comfiest shoes I have ever worn. I'll definitely be buying some more in the future from there. I was born with a club foot as well so it can be extremely difficult to find myself comfy shoes!

    Clarkes rocks!

This is the usual price for Clarke's shoes. I remember a few years ago I had to buy 3 pairs and asked for a discount...... Still remember that look as if I had asked for them to wipe my arze!!!!!

    LOL

I went into our local shopping centre yesterday.... but the queue was rediculous and walked out. They didnt display any prices in there either. I just assumed it was company policy and nationwide. Seems strange though. Maybe they think "down sarf", they can get away with more!!

Wonder if the prices in your Donny store are different?

Hmmm definitely priced up in Donny. Not sure whether there is a difference in prices. I can't see it really with it being a big chain. My Mum insists on getting their school shoes from Clarkes though. I would've just got them from ASDA or something but she says they wouldn't last as long. My 3 year old will probably grow out of them in a month anyway!

It's well known Essex is Wet Ham, you do get supporters you know who support a team they don't live near... but generally Essex is all West Ammmmmmmmm Propa nawty!

Enfield is London anyway, closest maybe buy decent teams only play there when West Ham, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal visit. You would be better off supporting one of the other London clubs at least that way you get to see a decent team play every other week.

I'm not surprised, £5 I wouldn't have even taken them if they gave me the shoes for free and pid me a fiver.

If they had kept the Hammeretes I could I have been swung by one of them.

Back to the shoes, why did you pay for them? They only sell them for that price as people pay for them.

Yeh thats true. MacAthur is in Ashford, but about 40 or 50 minutes drive. To be honest, we never seem to get this right! Wouldn't Carrick have been a better name to mention?

you can check the price on the clarks website? i usually get my son ,easured in clarks and then buy from ebay-but only cos i know now from experience the style and width he needs. I have just been to get him measured and they told me a whole size bigger which i know he cant be as its a month since last checked...
anyway bnew on ebay anything from £3 a pair but his schoolshoes were £10 compared to £28 or more in store! He always has clarks-i know that they are more comfortable as i have them myself. Im sure your kids will appreciate what you have spent

The bed frame was half price at £449 and the matress was £649. The rest was delivery and warrenty for the matress.) I agree though, it was bloody expensive!

What part of London are you in then?

    Orpington. (LB Bromley)

Already the wallet is sweating at the thought of Clarks!

Going Wednesday to by my boy two pairs though not the one with the toy in. Did that last time and within 20 minutes, one broken piece of plastic rubbish with wheels was dumped :x

So, you peeps recommend an outlet Clarks then?
I think there is one in Swindon or Portsmouth?

I know one thing, I know what my parents went through when buying clarks shoes for me and they did last longer in our time rather than now.

Tommy Balls in Blackburn was a very cheap outlet-they still have them just not so cheap or as large a range. You could call to ask them as the staff there have always been helpful. I am sure they have a website too..

Didn't in Ashford when I went specifically. They did filp flops, trainers and stuff but not what I would call proper school shoes.

my daughters cost £32 here in dundee with the dolly and dog in the heel, also bought last year and providing your childrens feet dont grow excessively they last a while.she got the whole school year out of them last year and they polish up great.
her friends mother bought 5 pairs of shoes from asda last year,so quality makes up for the price(she went to clarks this year):-D

Just thought of another place I used to get dragged to by my Mum was Russell and Bromley for my shoes when Clarks failed to have any sizes in.
Wonder what they are like now?

has anyones kids tried airators or geox? my son has asked for them this year so was just wondeing on the quality of them?

normally i get kids measured in clarks then buy new from ebay

I used to work in Clarks. The prices don't appear on the shoes for 2 reasons:
    1. the same style gets more expensive as it gets a larger size.
    2. they were priced during a quieter time and that shoe, on display was sold, and replaced by one from a box, which hasn't yet been priced because this is the busiest 2 weeks of the year for clarks.
both my children have clarks for their main school shoes, but because i am confident about fitting them, i don't bother with clarks trainers or summer sandals. and my children's weekend/party shoes aren't from there either.
But i do believe, if its their main shoes, to buy clarks.
I once went to Brantano shoes for a fitting for my daughter, they gave a rubbish fit, clarks would have never have sold my 3 year old such a hard soled shoe.
however, i never wore fitted shoes when i was little - never did me any harm

I've also worked in Clarks and the price is meant to be on the shoe but as blackpeppa said, if it's busy and the display shoe gets sold the replacement may not be priced up straight away. Still, seems odd that NO shoes had prices. Maybe it does vary from store to store.
As for the measurements not always being correct when shoes are fitted- different styles DO come up differently, some are more narrow, etc, so it's much better to go up a size than fit your child with the wrong size just because that's what the machine said!!

OK I have a major major grip with clarks in that 3 times (in the space of a fortnight) I went to get my son mesured and 3 times I got different sizes none of which actually fitted!!!!! My friend took her little girl shoes and they let her walk out with a pair of boots that she could wak out of.

I eventually took AM to a contenental shoe shop and he got perfect fitting shoes that lasted him till his feet grew. Unfortunatly thats now closed down so I have no Idea what to do now

Sorry just thought of another rant. That machine that mesures feet...whats with that why try and mesure 3 year old with that machine of course they are gonna move. One of the assistants even gave AM a pair of shoes and when he complaied that they hurt she said they couldn't cos the machine said that was the size he was!!! FFS!

    (sorry rant over)

Clarkes expensive rubbish, there are other shoe shops, seriously.

Sorry, thats just lame. If some shops can show the prices (like Donny-Dude has confirmed) then why not all of them? I mentioned 2 branches here, Thurrock and Orpington. Not one pair of kids shoes or trainers had any prices shown on either a ticket or a sticker on the shoe itself.

There is no doubt in my mind the reason is to get the shoes sorted and let parents try to explain to their kids why they can no longer have the shoes ('cos they are too expensive) or stump up.
