I'm hoping to end up in accounting one day and am stuck in my 2nd year at university at the moment studying economics and feel i wont be able to do anything with it

Can you advise me if the following degree will get me someway to my desired career and what further examinations would need to be done to get there

Dude - trust me you are doing an excellent degree, stick with it! I went to University with the idea of being an Accountant but enjoyed Economics at A-Level so did a joint degree (Economics & Accounting). To get into accounting you don't need an accounting degree - most employers like you to have a degree in a business related subject which of course Economics is.

It may not be too late to switch to a joint degree btw - people at my University did it, might just mean you need to take more finance modules next year.

Two friends did straight Economics degrees and are both Financial Analyst's & fully CIMA qualified.

im sorry but i thought that economics along with mathmatics was the accountants bread and butter ie 40 gross at £850 with a retail value of, equals£??? plus a saving of ££@ minus equals profit, wheres the problem?

Just to add - give some serious thought to it. I started off working in finance (Accountant & Pricing) - hated it (despite loving Accounting at Uni) and have now moved to being a Business Analyst where I still get daily exposure to accounting stuff, just get a lot more interesting things thrown into the mix!

I'd recommend getting your degree and finding a good grad scheme which offers full study support for either CIMA or ACCA - the only advantage a pure Accounting degree offers over an Economics one is you will get a few more exemptions for the two professional qualifications mentioned.

    Hope this helps fella
