Black & Decker Alligator Lopper: Anyone got one? What oil do you use?

I just received my Lopper via the deal posted here:

It comes with an empty oil feeder bottle but no freakin oil, and you can't use it without oiling the chain first.

Now, I'm quite prepared to wander into B&Q and pay £4 for half a litre of "chainsaw oil", but is there anything so special about "chainsaw oil" that means I can't use any other kind of oil, like 10W40 for example?

So, what do you use to lubricate yours then (your chainsaw lopper, I mean).

Hi
as a tree surgeon, what you need to use is genuine chain oil as the viscosity is correct for that purpose.
If you use any other type of oil you will find that the saw won`t cut as well and you will risk damaging the chain in the process.

Any good chain oil is ok such as oregon, stihl, or any other quality manufacture, but it MUST be chain oil.

Do not use engine oil or you will contaminate what ever you are trying to cut and you will effectively poison the tree!!!

I wondered if you could use motorcycle chain oil? Is that poisonous?

tool hire shops sell chain oil 1l bottles,

As I said do not use any other type of oil other than that for use in chainsaws!!!

My local tool hire shop was much cheaper than B&Q and Homebase

Right. So, genuine chain oil it is then  thanks ladies.

Gawd only knows why B&D couldn't at least include a starter pack of the stuff

You can but motorcycle chain oil is more expensive. Some bikers use chainsaw oil in their chain oilers as its cheaper.....

Mine is rechargable - no such cable hanging anywhere

I bought it as i thought it was rechargeable but turns out its electric

After having mine for over a year now i can say its a brilliant bit of kit. Never once have a lopped a leg off and its handled 4-5" branches without flinching
