Can there be an overload of offers?
Surprisingly, during events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, many fantastic offers go can unnoticed on hotukdeals due to the rapid pace of updates. It's all well and good telling you folks to compare prices, but not everyone knows the best way of doing this. Don't worry, I can send you in the right direction and offer some additional tips to prepare for the big sale period.

Once you have your wishlist all figured out, you'll want to work through the items and write down the recent and average prices, so you can gauge how good a deal is, when it crops up during Black Friday.

A few go-to sites for comparison are:
    • Google Shopping - A tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.

    • PriceSpy - Logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.

    • Idealo- Another website that lets you compare prices between retailers.

    • Keepa - This browser extension adds price histories to Amazon product pages. Keep in mind that this won't include any vouchers that have been available in the past. Price drop alerts can be super useful too.
    • CamelCamelCamel - Offers Amazon price histories and displays price drops. Price drop alerts are also possible here

Possibly a dumb question - but what date is UK Black Friday and Cyber Monday these days?

And the answer is NOT November!
    Dan's avatar
Black friday is Nov 24 this year, and cyber monday the 27th

The deals often start earlier though - we find it ramps up from around the 3rd week of the month

Expect high prices now then stuff can be reduced to black Friday deals.

My bets are on loads of air fryers deals this year as no one can shift them now, you see them stacked up in discount stores all over. (edited)
    Freddo_V_'s avatar
The only reason anyone cares about air fryers is because of the 'cost of living crisis' they're easy to flog. They don't actually fry anything, and are basically a small convection oven.

I have posted this on another discussion, however.... I chose a random item on Amazon Prime day to track(Celestron 31051 AstroMaster 130EQ telescope). It was £185 on Amazon Prime day. It then rose to £209 and was sitting at around £249 yesterday. Now £209 18/11. If you don't need it don't buy it. Use sites like camelcamelcamel to be informed of what you are paying for is actually a good deal.
    Scissor_sisters's avatar
Use Honey to track price items.

Noco, the guys that make the battery packs and jump starters etc. Have bumped there prices UP for Black Friday on Amazon

the Jump pack I was looking at has gone from £136 to £163 (edited)

What's the best thing anyone has ever had in the Black Friday sales? And was it really a good price ?
    madmac999's avatar
Last year I bought an LG 42" C2 OLED for £699 on BF. Never came back to anywhere near that price & even now, a year later, its £899 if you can find it in stock.
  10. ArticIcon's avatar
I wonder if we will get decent deals for mobile phones during November.

I always see mostly deals for Games, TVs, Consoles, Kitchen appliances, IoT stuff etc.

Waiting on EE to do theirs, contract is up in 12 days. 4 years ago I got a 43" TV and 2 years ago I got a Xbox Series S with my upgrades.

    pitiful selection of deals around.

    Right?
I was banking on getting most of Christmas out of the way today. I guess I'm going to have to hope Cyber Monday is better but honestly, I don't fancy my chances.
I don't think I can ever remember a black Friday being as dismal as it is today!
  13. KazzyD's avatar
Was looking at a Laptop in John Lewis, it had £100 off last week. Shop assistant said wait for the Black Friday offers, you will get a much better deal. Same laptop now has £130 off, but they've increased the RRP price by £200, so I won't be buying the laptop from John Lewis.

I would like to see a 48 inch c2 for a lot less. Also would like decent microphones (blue snowball or yeti) on a good sale.

I haven't ever seen anything I wanted or needed in these sales though. Shame considering there's so much hype around it
    CraigeDavido's avatar
Can currently get a C2 48 inch for £774 through richer sounds with applying discount codes

Another Amazon lovefest bordering on Amazon advertising. I'll think you'll find that if you shop around they're not the cheapest by some distance.
  18. Zooicidal's avatar
I'm sure most of you are sensible but if buying from a 3rd party make sure to check their profile first. Browsing for a new TV unit this morning and the amount of "just launched" Chinese and fake sellers that have suddenly appeared is nuts.
  19. banterchicken's avatar
Hoping for a 40/43 TV, have applied for the amazon promo but nothing yet.
  20. JaiKhan's avatar
I would recommend for the Amazon shoppers use Camel Camel Camel. You copy the link of the item into it and it will show you the price history so you can see if its been lower before

    Scam Friday.

What to expect ? An absolute waste of time. Price inflations coupled with minor reductions which are still above the everyday price.

More fun to be had going outside and flying your kite in storm Ciaran. Downside :you lose your kite. Upside : free holiday in Sweden.

Just got myself a bargain Oled TV, it is 2020 but picked up the 55" OLED TV 4K UHD HDR KD-55A8BU for £199.80 from Fenwicks, they'd only got the 1, not the latest technology but will do for the bedroom at that price

Bit on the rubbish side this year... though guess we'll see a bit more in the evening and weekend. Doesn't help it being a week before most people get paid.

What to expect - all the same prices as last year, with everything a little bit smaller.

Price hikes and fake sales. The only ones who do decent November sales are the Chinese sites like AliExpress.

I used their "3+ $1.99" offer to bag a load of cheap bits I'd had my eye on for a while.

Don’t get me wrong, I like a deal…but it’s getting silly. That one day event (for shops) in the US, has found its way over to the UK…& now it’s a whole month of Black Friday. Get ready for the end of November & it will be…”Black Friday extended for another week”  And then it’s the same stuff regurgitated for Cyber Monday.
    jonnyholywoodni's avatar
Eventually we'll just ditch Christmas and have Black Friday Mas

Historically 10-11 years ago I'd say we did have some genuinely good Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals. I remember getting Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 for £25 each from Tesco Entertainment.

Sadly these days it seems like its become black Friday month where most deals are not really deals.
    Alex_Vee's avatar
Was good deals because it's was about to create new spending event, in this case Black Friday.
  36. Bensafc's avatar
Anyone waiting up to see what deals drop in the early hours?
  37. Eyesclosed's avatar
Black Friday an absolute con, Samsung TV I saw about a month ago was £50 cheaper then, than it is now in the Black Friday sale 😡
  38. SuperCoolFunHappyGuy's avatar
Nowhere in the wall of text, does it specify the dates for black friday and cyber monday.

    Other than that, good stuff.
