Blackpool Pleasure Beach Vintage rides - The search continues...

When I was married, we were given 2 little (kids) tanks that used to be used on Blackpool Pleasure Beach (many moons ago). Kids put their 20p in (or whatever the going rate was then), sat on top & razzed around a track. They take car like batteries & are very heavy duty.

When I got divorced, we sorted finance & custody arrangements but it was so long & drawn out, (and because we had 2 properties to split) the judge said everything in the property I lived in at that date was mine, and visa versa. They were at my house so I got them. He's always wanted them but said he wouldn't pay me a penny.... until I said I was putting them ebay!! I wont use them, but they could be worth a bob or two. He's asking how much do I want but I haven't a clue. In any event, I'll get him to buy kids clothes or something, but to what value?

    Any suggestions?

can you tell me how? They're in the shed. I'll dig em out & take some.

call your local auctioneers - they'll point you in the right direction

Ours have valuation days which I think are free

Once you find out what they are properly called then you can get some idea of price from either people on here, ebay or auctioneers. They sound like they would be quite collectable to local people in blackpool. Maybe give an auction room there a call!

You will need to find somewhere to host your pictures, ie Photobucket (it's free to join) then you just copy & paste the code into the post here.

I find the best way to find the prices of things is to search the past auctions on ebay. Log into ebay and click to search the completed auctions when searching for the item and you'll see the prices that the item usually sells for. That would give you a good idea on the price.

If you haven't done so already I think it might be a good idea to also contact Blackpool pleasure beach & see what they have to say ? :

I wouldn't even bother listing them on Ebay..as they will go for a cheap price tbh and you won't get your moneys worth.

You can contact Sothebys and Christies auction houses toy department via online and they will give you a free valuation if possible but they have up to 6 weeks waiting list but definitely worth the wait if you want to find out the true value of them items..hope this helps.

find a specialist toy dealer in your area and have a talk to them. Also like someone else said also speak to the pleasure beach. dont bother with ebay for these u wont get the best price for them on there. i think they could be worth a few bob as ive never seen anything like these before. i wouldnt mind one myself.

thanks to all for assistance so far.

I've been advised I've reached my rep limit so will post further rep tomorrow.

Have now posted pictures (photobucket much easier to use!)

Anyone know what these were called?

Or maybe try a local toy museum, I am sure if you google it there should be a few of them up and down the country.

I know people would pay alot of money for those sorts of things. Collectors are always looking for things like this esp in Blackpool

You couldn't ask them what they are called could you ! lol

nacider is right. There was a log flume car from Blackpool Pleasure Beach on eBay last year and it sold for £60, buyer collects, if I remember correctly.

If these cars went out of action a considerable time ago then it'd be worth even more.

Spoken to the Pleasure Beach (very helpful young man). He doesn't remember what these were called, but does remember them & said that when the Pleasure Beach renewed the young kids area they gave them to Blackpool Sandcastle & they were working on a track on what is now the Sancastle car park.

This ring a bell with anybody?

Told other half what I thought they were worth & asked him to buy little fella some nice new clothes. He told me exactly where to get off so considering selling now!

Presume somewhere like Christies could point me in the right direction??

The sandcastle is hte big indoor water place on the promenade isnt it?

    Original Poster

    Yep.

It makes sense too as we got them from a guy who worked at Blackpool Sandacastle, but I always wondered how he got hold of them - didn't know they'd been given by Pleasure Beach to Sancastle until the guy at Pleasure Beach said so - now it all makes sense.

It sounds like these were used on Thor's Turnpike, but i don't when i opened so not sure.

There's some brochuers of pleasure beach in the 80's but they don't feature the rides.. hmm

I think Thor's Turnpike may be what they replaced them with. The chap at BPB did say that they were replaced with something similar, doing a quick google search on that name, they do look like the same sort of thing.

I've found out that Blackpool Sancastle opened in 1986, so I guess that must have been about the time BPB gave them to them.
