    Blood donation with Crohns?

    Banned
I used to donate blood years ago but when I found out I had chrons disease and had an op I had to wait a while before I could do it again but the next time I went I couldn't due to medication I was on. And due to a mixture of meds and getting tattoos I haven't been able to do it for years.

But now I don't take meds for it at the moment and haven't had a tattoo for a while so I was wondering if I can give blood again?

    Think you should be ok.
If you are not on meds and not had any needles in last 12 months, then should be ok
Gave blood two days ago and nurse had good rake round with needle..arm is bruised to hell

A donation bus is coming to the office in a couple of weeks so want to be certain before put my name down so I don't waste a booking space and their time if I can't donate

    Have you tried here.

You could give them a ring, phone number here,I used to give blood regularly until I started with a very similar disease (ulcerative colitis), after diagnosis I was told I would never be able to donate again.

Can't answer your questions, but I want to thank you for trying to give some more! I have the utmost respect for people who give their time and blood for nothing in return. It's the most wonderful and generous thing you can do. I have had to have blood from a donor after a serious accident several years ago, so I can never return the favour, but encourage everyone I know to - it saved my life, and what you are doing will save many more. Well done to all, thank you, and don't forget to sign the organ donor register too!

Dont forget if you do give blood you can also at same time give an extra test tube full and be put on Bone Marrow Registar...again you could be saving a life.

i agree, sadly for those whose life it has saved they cannot return the favour so well done to all those that do donate

Thanks to everyones advice but turns out you can't give blood if you have crohns unfortunatly. Have even had to throw out my organ donor card cause can't donate those either, well I can only donate for medical research so gonna have to look into that as don't want them messing with my brain lol

That`s one I`ll also have to check, as I also carry a donor card... it was never mentioned when I was told I could no longer donate blood.

Unfortunatly due to the simularities with the diseases it'll prob be the same but let me know what you find out as I just spoke to a nurse at my hospital as I was getting blood test results from routine checks I had done couple of weeks ago
