Blu-Ray Dvd player query with Samsung Tv i have..

    Hi everyone,

Im thinking of upgrading from the usual £39 dvd player to a Samsung Blu ray £269 player,
    now the question is,
My tv doesnt support 1080p but does go to 1080i but will i still get a really good picture on my tv through the Blu ray player?
or should i get a better tv (which i dont really want to do) to get the best from the blu ray player

    thanks

    buy a ps3

1080i is OK, but if you watch alot of fast moving media - action movies for example you will notice the interlacing. The higher resolution is noticeable if you're within a reasonable distance of the tv (as a rule of thumb think if your sitting with 2.5x the diagonal length of tv then you'll notice. IE 42" tv = 10 feet or so). Best off going to a sony authorised dealer and asking to take a look - most will spend a while with you if they think your buying a tv / blurau player! Ask lots of questions, see plenty of inputs, and don't settle for an excuse "It doesn't look amazing because this is feeding x number of tvs" is a common one - get them to show you it exactly as you'd have it at home.

PS - Make sure you realise the profile implications of the current gen blu ray players... only the ps3 + a select few models are 2.0 capable, so if that matters to you a ps3 from argos using voucher trick may be best option).

Buy a PS3 for Blu Ray and a cheap multiregion upscaling dvd player if any of your existing discs are from america (PS3 is not multiregion for BD or DVD).

The PS3's firmware is constantly updated so has none of the problems some other BD players have had.

Would have to agrree With the "buy a PS3" comments. For value for money they can't be beaten. Would definately go for the 1080p TV if you're gonna buy a new one. True HD is simply awesome, plus you'll avoid all the Lip sync issues that you get with standard HDMI.

Gotta say though, Blu-ray is very good picture wise on a 1080i TV and to be honest I wouldn't go and buy a new telly unless you really need a new one. Trust us, buy the PS3 and you'll be well impressed.

Be careful that the one you get can update profiles etc

You will only notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p if you sat two tv's (one with 1080i and one with 1080p) next to each other, otherwise the difference is minimal.

Don't bother with the Xbox 360, go for the much superior PS3 and get the Blu-ray player chucked in, you will save the £269 you would be spending on the standalone player and have a PS3 to play games and multi-media on, plus you can get the PS3 for around the same price as the stand alone player (give or take £30)

Any cheapo lead will be fine, there is no difference between a £5 hdmi and a £50 one

get a ps3, its the best blu ray and standard dvd player out there. also it will upscale to match your tv, also you might find that 720p looks better1
what size is the tv? model number?:)

The only reason you would buy a PS3 over a 360 at the moment is for Blu-Ray. The 360 is miles ahead in terms of game selection at the moment.

Maybe in a year when the PS3 has a better selection of must buy games and range of cheap platinum older games will it be the top choice. And this is coming from someone buying a a PS3 soon, as I think the tech in the console is great just it hasn't been out as long.
