Blu ray player owners-do you still buy dvds?

Got a blu ray player in december and been picking up as many bargains as possible.

Would you only buy blu ray now(if you have a player?),or are you buying a mixture?

Bought the sopranos box set dvd recently, but other than that will stick with bluray methinks-the quality difference(apart from the odd dodgy transfer) is worth the difference imho.

Cant wait for star wars/lord of the rings and aliens boxsets!

Lovefilm + AnyDVD HD + Home server + wired network + HTPCs = library of Blu Rays at the touch of a button from any room in the house.

DVDs definitely a thing of the past.

I still buy DVDs when they are cheap, but when ever possible I choose the BD

I always go for the BD although the wife persists in picking up cheap crap DVDs to watch.

I have a blu-ray player, but only buy the films i know would look good in blu-ray/films i really like, so would like to see in hi-def. Otherwise it's DVD.

I havent bought amy DVDs in a while. and probobly never will again

Dont buy either, for the past year I haven't managed to finish a single film, within 10-15 mins I am bored silly and turn them off.

Should stick my blu ray and dvd on ebay for the use they get. Odd how times change I used to be a massive film buff, going to the main stream cinema twice a week and twice a week to the art house cinema, plus buying a shed load of videos and dvds and subscribing to Empire magazine, now I couldnt care less if I never saw a film again.

What do you do instead now?

i buy films which are heavy on visual effects on blu-ray and everything else on DVD.

never buy dvds anymore (with the exception of Friends boxset). other than that Bluray FTW (or HD downloads )

upscaled dvds are good if you have a good upscaler, but i just buy BR now, have over 150 now.

Do you get them from lovefilm because theres not much selection on torrent sites etc? I havent got a hdtv so dont know about that but i DL most films, is this not readily available for HD stuff?

Torrents would be terrible for them I imagine, I use newsgroups and you can find any Blu Ray you want really, the problem is they're an average of 40gig in size and with my internet connection and peak time restrictions I'd be lucky to do one a week. With Lovefilm I can maybe get 6 a week if I'm quick with the turnaround and they send the discs out quickly enough.

guess your looking at uncompressed mkvs at that size, I just got for the H264/X264 encodes, normally 1.5-3gb ok quality is not as good as true bluray but much better than normal dvdrip so gets the job done

Full BDMV folders, exact copies of Blu Rays. It's the same as having the physical disc.

It's the only way to get HD audio from rips otherwise I'd stick to the 10-15gig 1080p mkvs. It's nice to have the menus and extras too.

Take one old pc, add 1 x 500GB drive for OS, a SATA PCI card and 4 x 1.5TB drives. Install server software (I use Windows Home Server). As I had everything apart from the disks it only cost me about £300, if I had to buy the other bits I'd say you could build similar for £500 in total.

    I still buy DVDs
