Blue Peter dog Lucy dies of cancer after 12 years on the show

Lucy bounded onto our screens in 1999 and by the start of 2011 she had been on Blue Peter for 12 years, that's even longer than most of the human presenters!

Blue Peter viewers were yesterday given the news the programme’s dog Lucy had died, aged 13.

The long-running BBC1 children’s show paid tribute to the golden retriever by screening highlights of her 12 years on television.

Lucy, who died of cancer last Tuesday, was the seventh Blue Peter dog. Presenter Helen Skelton said: “Lucy was loyal and loving. I know the viewers will miss her as much as we already do.”

Lucy loved taking part in everything in Blue Peter apart from her annual bath on the show.

I remember when she came onto the show when she was a pup, she will be sadly missed.

    That is so sad

I have a goldie and they are lovely dogs. And I too remember when Lucy arrived, when my kids were small. Sad news indeed.

    Very Sad RIP

    Awwww poor Lucy.

We had our dog for nearly 18 years, poor Jim (although he did stink)
