Blueray player dilemma, need opinions please

Hi, over the last year I have bought loads of dvds, some classics and a lot of disney animated. Now that the price of blueray discs and players are falling i'm kind of wishing I bought a blueray player. Will my dvds play on a blueray player or should I stick with the dvd player. any feedback is much appreciated thanks

Thanks for your feedback just one more question, will the picture quality of my dvds be slightly better when played on a blueray player as my dvds are not old ones but digitally remastered flims, well most of them, will this make a difference on a blueray player?

my ps3 ( when i had it ) never upscaled my standard dvds but i believe some blu-ray players will upscale, if that interests you then your best of posting a thread even within this on

    1, your max price
    2, pref brand
3, any extras ( as in the upscaling etc)

Just a quick reminder. Don't forget the fact that the PS3 is a hell of a good blu ray player in its own right. With regards to upscaling, I've had upscaling dvd player and in all honesty, I've never been able to tell the difference. I still can't grasp how one is supposed to make it look better than the original. Doesn't make any sense to me.

so your saying if I bought a blueray player, my dvds would still look the same as they do on a dvd player, therefore possibly wasting my money?

No, I was saying that personally I haven't noticed any improvement when viewing supposedly upscaled dvds.
The PS3 does actually upscale dvds (only when connected via hdmi, though) and others report it to do a good job. avforums.com/for…tml

There are links to 3 threads in post 3 of my link which should answer all your questions.

Edit: just checked those links and they aren't great tbh. Google ps3 upscale dvds and there's plenty to chew over.

picked up an upscaling dvd player last year and when i ran it at the same time as a normal dvd with 2 disney dvds, i could not notice any difference.

TVs contain a scaling chip anyway which is why most aren't noticing a difference.

I certainly notice a difference playing dvds through my bluray player. I have this player: amazon.co.uk/LG-…8-1
