Bono manages 70 minutes without mentioning politics shock! horror!

Just back fom u2 at hampden-amazing show as always, but there I was thinking "maybe bono isnt completely up himself these days" when boom-afghanistan,burma,africa-all came in quick succession and the multi millionaires lectured us all on poverty and injustice again.

Ho hum! one of the best showmen on earth but am I the only one that finds the politics cringeworthy?

got you talking and thinking about it either way so his job is done

    i hate him

Hope 70 mins wasn't all they played. Played for 2 and a half hours at Wembley on Sat night, Bono went through a bit of his politics ********. Good show though, even if I was in the nosebleeds.

FFS,going to see them on Thursday, going for the music,do not want to hear all the is political crap at a concert, totally unnecessary and not appropriate.

I thought he was Apple through and through:whistling:

I'd like to see them without Bono being political, purely because you can chart their deteriorating albums alongside his increased political-ness.

Yeah, leaving all that crap aside. Best moment at Wembley was Where the streets have no name, really came across different to the studio recording, bit like an old Irish traditional song. Great camera work on the stretchy video screen too.

I can't be the only person who hates stadium gigs. Been to them all over the world and I can't say I've enjoyed seeing any 'massive' band as much as I've enjoyed seeing a smaller, up-and-coming band in a crappy club with sticky floors and beer flying around my head.

stadium gigs are fine as long as they get the sound right-they so rarely do tho.

Why can't rock stars stop trying to be goody-goodies. Play music loud and fast, overdose backstage whilst your surrounded by groupies and stuff the third world:thumbsup:

That's cobblers... POP is easily their greatest album and was released at a time that Bono's political activity was at's it most ferverent.

It helps, but there's no intimacy. You're always so far away, even if you're in the 'Gold Circle'.

It's 'easily' better than Joshua Tree? Really?

It's objective isn't it? POP is far sexier than Joshua Tree could ever hope to be...

Yep, agree with that completely. I can't help but feel disconnected when seeing a stadium concert. If I'm at one I have to get close to the stage - and then I'm annoyed when the guys on stage play up to the camera as it looks embarrasing....which they obviously have to do as to over half the crowd, the band are almost a dot on the horizon.

And then there's the sound quality problem(s)...

I much prefer a festival site for larger scale shows, I saw Neil Young at Hyde Park in July and it was a great example of a how to pull off a large scale show that made you feel involved.

Nah it's me getting my dates mixed up, I was there on the 27th and 28th of June for Young/Springsteen, was a really hot Saturday and a cloudy Sunday.

I thought Seasick Steve was brilliant on the Saturday. Neil Young just edged it for me over Springsteen overall, not much to chose though. I'm a huge fan of both anyway so it was win/win for me seeing them both over 2 nights.
