mornin! bought a fab maxi dress from boohoo which arrived today. i'm average height (5'6") but it's over half a foot too long
is it easy enough to take up a dress (never done it before) or is it best to send it back only i've never seen a dress like it before and is now sold out on the boohoo site

I'm useless at sewing, so I always use double sided sticky tape, but you can get something called wonderweb which you iron on

i've heard of wonderweb before but never used it, does it survive being in the washing machine?
Pay to have it altered professionally,it shouldn't be that much.

'ide check out how much a seamstress would charge

forgot to say it's slightly ruffled on the bottom but would need to take it up slightly higher than that anyway
Will probably only cost you about a fiver to get a tailor to do it properly, I'm 5'1" so my tailor knows me well, I could probably make 2 dresses out of 1 if it's that long!
Pay for it to get taken up at a tailors...cost abot £7 and they will make it look exactly like it was before!

A fiver, that seems quite cheap,i had some trousers taken up and it was seven pounds.

do you have to pin it up to the right height befor you take it to a tailors or just tell them how many inches you want taking up?

she is either a giant or standing on a step ladder, lol
think i will get it taken up at a tailors, grrr it's going to make a cheap dress into a not so cheap one :-(
Wondaweb is a staple in my house! Washes up well no matter how many times its been in the machine. Excellent for trousers etc but think a dress might be a bit more of a challenge. Probably best use a dressmaker. I find all maxi dresses are too long and I'm 5'6". Usually end up trying to buying the petite version where possible. Seen some lovely ones this year but put them against me and they're trailing which puts me off! That's a lovely one you've bought

i thought 5 foot 6 is average height for a woman! think i'll try the wonderweb idea first, it'll definately be the cheaper option! if that doesn't work then off to the tailors
thank you! i really like it, haven't seen one similar anywhere else which is why i really don't want to send it back!

noooooooooooooooooooooo! i WILL make it fit! even if i have to get a medevil toture rack and stretch myself!
I wouldn't use that webbing stuff on a dress like that,i've altered things myself before but i wouldn't attempt to do that incase i made a mess of it,if i were you i'd either return it or pay for it to be done properly otherwise you might end up with a ruined dress.
