Found 10th Nov 2008
My daughter's working her way throught the Harry Potter books, she started reading them in the Summer and is now just beginning the Deathly Hallows, (she's nearly 10 btw). She's really enjoyed reading these books and I don't want her intrest in reading to stop once she's finished them. With her birthday and Xmas coming up I want to get her some new books but I just don't know where to start, can anyone recommend some, maybe similair to HP but not necessary.

The Garth Nix series, beginning with Mister Monday, similar in a way to Harry Potter

Michael Morpugo is very good.

if you had a word with her teacher - he/she should give you good ideas to take her forward - my girl tended to outgrow what was available in school and her teacher bought extras for library

Don't know this author but let me know what your daughter thinks

shadow mancer series meant to be very like harry potter style

My twin nephew and neice are 11 and they discovered reading from happy potter too. so straight rom the horses mouthes i have some reccomendations...

what about the philip pullman northern lights set

Eoin Colfer's Artemis fowl series

Angie Sages Septimus Heap series

All are along similar lines to HP as with magic and wizardry or hidden worlds. Both of them rave about these books so I hope their recomendations help!

sal x

I agree regarding the Artemis Fowl series.. i read a few of them when i was younger and they were really good

Maybe "His Dark Materials"?

my girlfriend also suggests the old kingdom trilogy by garth nix (sabriel, lirael and abhorsen) and the alice stories by lewis carrol....

Read first to determine suitablitity but I am a big kid and never thought anything would come close to harry potter. That was until I found Philip Pullman's Dark Materials Series (recent film Golden Compass = Northern Lights) utterly fantastic!!

very late here so don't know if you'll see this message but...
my daughter has enjoyed the ]Charlie Bone series and these... ]Lauren St John
Also Lemony Snickets Unfortunate Series of Events and ]Ballet Shoes

oh and the ]Ingo series and ]Inkheart trilogy... !

hth!
