liverpool or durham ill just get a new one

If the passport looks fine and isn't damage then you should be fine, just queue in the non fast track queue if there is one to avoid any problems, The chip is sealed away and shouldn't be prone to water ingress anyway. The chip is mainly there to fast track you through by allowing the passport to be read by a machine and have less boarder agents need to deal with passengers, they will have fall back processes if the chip isn't reading aka the same process you have been used to in the past.

All it means is you end up in a queue for a bit longer than you might get if there are e-passport gates. The passport itself still remains valid so long as it's in good condition just like any passport.

if i remember rightly at leeds and bradford they dont even check by the chip its just when coming back they do going they just look at it

My son washed and tumbled dried his passport (left in jeans pocket) and was traveling the next morning. It took him longer to get through passport control both departing and on arrival. He took extra ID with him, driving licence, E111 and he had work ID too. He was traveling within Europe and it was with work, but he got through ok and changed the passport immediately on his return.

just don't go through the section for chip passports, it will be fine!
