Anyone recommend any good books to read?
I'm an avid reader and am looking for some new material. My favourite author at the moment is John Connolly so I'm looking for stuff in this vein, but I also like Patricia Cornwell, Tess Gerritsen, Kathy Reichs, Michael Connelly etc, etc. Anyone got any suggestions please?

Thanx Becks, any idea what its called?

I've just finished Bill Bryon's 'The Thunderbolt Kid' which is all about 50's and 60's America and how mad the world was back then. Was an enjoyable read.

    James Patterson
    Especially the Alex Cross series

Lisey's Story. I just finished reading it literally 20 minutes ago over lunch!

Very good - nice long book (650 pages), and a nice mix of reality and fantasy without any real 'horror' as such. One of his better ones, I think.

It's also available half price in Waterstones at the moment (but only for a day or two more).

The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Stephen Chbosky

Both me and dad have read, and enjoyed, that book. Dad has read a few of the authors mentioned in your original post so you should like it

I'm half-way through Richard Dawkins' book 'The God Delusion'. It is a good book, a bit tough to digest at times, but very rewarding nevertheless.

As you can guess, I'm sure, the book promotes the idea that the existence of God (i.e. the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, interventionist-responder-to-prayer and creator of all type God) is so improbable and highly problematic iteslf, that Dawkins posits natural selection as an alternative to explain how things are in the known universe.

Wow - that's probably the longest sentence I've ever written!

Anyway, I recommend the book and I bought it from Play.com for £4.99. play.com/Boo…tml

Good luck finding a book and I'm sure you'll be satisfied if you buy this one.

ps - you can read the first chapter of this book at Dawkins' website richarddawkins.net/

Thanx to everyone for your replies - rep has been left accordingly

I've just finished John Connoly's The book of lost things, which I assume you have read, but I really enjoyed that.

As for other books, try Terry Pratchett, I would recommend as starting books something like Mort (they don't need to be read in order, and I don't like the books about the wizards which is why i'm not saying start with the colour of magic)

Danny Wallaces books are good fun. You could start with Are you Dave Gorman that way you get a taste of both his and Dave Gormans writing style so you'd know if you'd want to continue his books. Otherwise Yes Man and Join Me are 2 of my fav books. (Dave Gorman and Danny Wallace write from real life, so they are kinda biographical)

The heart shaped box was also worth a read, can't remember who wrote it at mo tho.

Not to mention Harry Potter comes out fri night

btw the book by Dan Brown before the Da Vinci was Angels and Demons (at least i think that was written first)

Try Mary Higgins Clark as well, also Robert Ludlum bit more war type but still writes great books. If you like action war what about Chris Ryan or Andy Mcnabb. Lisa Scofiel I think writes some good ones as well.
