    u kiddin? massive bookshop chain

To be fair the prices they charged for books and games were always RRP, so it's no surprise noting the credit squeeze over the past year.

Yet another victim of supermarket price cuts, and probably an unwillingness to go to a price war.

    Your joking!

I am a bookworm and always got a book on the go - but would never buy from Borders because of their prices.

I normally get my books from The Book People, in fact a good example is I bought an autobiography two weeks ago for £4.99 delivered from TBP -and borders still selling it for the rrp of £17.99 plus postage.

Used to love going there. Expensive but had a Starbucks upstairs so used to get a much too expensive frothy coffee and browse through some of the books in their comfy chairs. Didnt buy too many but nice place to stop and have a rest while shopping.

:whistling: no great loss...although their coffee lounge was nice!

lol. Waterstones is a cracking place to grab a beverage and a book/mag especially the one in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

Only used them and Borders for this and to check release dates of my fav authors.

    oops.......... in dundee?

Ah damn, they were great to quickly pop into if you needed something immediately....there's quite a few of them around here and it's a shame that there'll be nothing left on the highstreet, other than Tescos metro/local in the near future. lol

It isn;t supermarkets - they only have the top 50 or whatever bestsellers. It is online sales. Last time I wanted to order a textbook book in Borders about 5 years back they said it would take 3 weeks as it was on backorder in the UK and cost RRP plus a 10% restocking fee. Instead I got it from Amazon US delivered for half what borders wanted and it arrived all the way across the Atlantic in 3 days.
