Breakdown cover. Which company is cheapest and reliable?

I need to renew breakdown cover but the current company charges too much (direct choice).

Price comparions say the ones below are cheaper, but are they reliable?

I got a 15 month breakdown cover deal beginning of march for cheaper than a 12 month one. I had a look over on mse and I think I'm with autonational.

I would like roadside assistance and home cover but the sites confusing. How much would this be for a 9 year old car?

Bank accounts can sometimes include breakdown cover. I'm with natwest £12 a month gets mobile phone insurance travel insurance car breakdown and few other bits and bobs for both of us.

Ours is up soon, would be interesting to see who is the cheaped

    Is www.covermybreakdown.co.uk any good?

I'm with Rescue my car. IIRC, they use the AA's or RAC's fleet vehicles although you are charged £40 for each claim, even before they arrive.

That said, it cost me £38 (if not less) for a year and that's the top package, equiv to the AA's top package.

If your car's been relatively problem free, it makes no sense to pay £140 to get the same cover to find out that you didn't really need it.

I was with first call breakdown, but never used them, so cant comment

If you have them, you can use your Tesco Clubcard points via their Deals (4 x value) for RAC membership.

Ok I can't believe this has just happened, 1 hour ago I went to start the car and suddenly it won't start! Basically when I try to start it, it makes a strange noise so I have to stop. The noise is like when you immerse a straw in a bowl of water and blow through it.. That water bubbling up put obviously much more intense! Any ideas on what could be wrong? It was working fine yesterday...

So now the cars broke, my breakdown cover finished a week ago, someone please help me lol.

This has happened to me twice with a previous car. First time I was at uni so I rang round 5-6 little repair shops in the yellow pages. Found a one man band who decided that I had a battery problem and that they could come out and fix a new one for under £40. They said that if this is not the case they could give me a free tow to their garage if I wanted. They came out, new battery fitted £35 everything fine.

Second time I was driving back from Glastonbury. 3 miles from home at 3am the clutch fell off. I walked home, went to bed. The next day my local garage that I use (as he is reasonably priced, charges hourly, happy to use scrap parts or non manufacturer parts and does not try to find extra faults) offered to collect it for £10.

Hope my experience helps you decide what to do!

Call your breakdown company an dtell them you want to renew, backdated to when it expired - then call them tomorrow... if you need a callout straight away you can say upfront that you have a problem & want to renew & then book call immediately, but don't know if they would let you ...

    Spot on!

It was a flat battery. The new one cost me £70! Apparantly it comes with a 3 year warranty. I was annoyed since I just saw your post at a new one costing £35! The local garage quoted me £55 so it wasn't a total con them...:x

Been with ]Green Flag for years and always had good service and very competitive pricing.
