its fairly easy to set up, firstly you using xp or vista and is your pc connected wirelessly or wired. if wired does your pc have two ethernet ports???

im using xp.
pc is connected to router via cable.
pc has two ethernet ports.

right, turn on the xbox and connect to pc with ethernet cable -> go to network settings / manage network connections in control panel -> select both of the ethernet connections -> right click and select bridge -> couple of seconds later the bridge should appear -> reset pc and then turn on xbox

hope this helps. sometimes another step is required, get back to me on how that went

hasn't worked. still no internet on xbox

dont bridge, it rarely works properly

Quick guide to sharing internet to an xbox 360 (and it works cos i just did it and the longest part was plugging everything in).

1. Plug everything in

2. Share the internet connection (untick allow others to control the shared internet connection)

3. Turn on your 360 and enjoy xbox live.

got the error message when doing the above.

An error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled.

Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled.
A lan connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing.

make sure your xbox has got the connection set to automatic.

yup

the bridge always works, if it didnt first time then you need to force your router into compatibility mode. i dont know how to post links so type the following into google "bridge connection force compatibility mode" its the first link (should be microsoft.com) explains everything

Im might be going crazy here, but why not use one of your routers ethernet ports to connect the 360 to. No need for the PC to be on then, or any bridging required ??

that would make sense, i had assumed that this was not an option

Maybe he means he has a modem.

Possibly, but he does call it a 'router' :whistling:

OP, could you please provide the make / model of the device connecting your PC to your telephone line.

And in your original post you say that your Xbox sits 'right next to your pc'

No wonder people are getting confused trying to help you here. My advice, use a ethernet cable, if you can reach your PC then you can reach 'your words - right next to it' your 360.

buy a long ethernet cable (but not from pc world),if if you're router is wireless consider getting a wireless adapter.

lol thats probs the best option then

www.kenable.co.uk cheap as chips for cables

Do you still need help?

To be honest this guy sounds abit of a none tech geek :whistling:

two options

1 - I think one of the best options that no ones concidered yet is a small network hub ? Get a small hub and take the network cable coming from his router/modem in the other room and plug this into the hub then split the hub 2 ways on into the pc and then other into the xbox

Simple when you know how ... Someone out there though needs to point him in the right direction to get a cheap afordable hub.

2 - Get a powerline pack - This concists of two plugs with network cable inputs. Plug one into a power supply near your router and then run a cable from a spare output on the router into the plug. Then get another network plug and put it under your desk and then run a cable from this into your xbox. REMEMBER IF YOU TAKE THIS OPTION - MAKE SURE THAT YOU BUY A TWIN PACK OF PLUGS NOT JUST ONE.

The network homeplugs run by sending the packets of network information via the copper in your home electrical system. They work pritty well - And again someone needs to point you in the direction of a cheap set.

Option 1 is for if you DONT have a spare output on your router/modem
Option 2 is for it you DO habe a spare output on your router/modem

This is more easier and less complex than a bridge. Especialy on vista !

Hope this helps

I just realised you said you were running xp - This makes the bridge even worse :P

Anyways i was browesing todays posts and noitced these;

hotukdeals.com/ite…tw/

There a set of 85mbps home plugs. They will work well with the xbox ... I used to use a set like this then i went wireless - I still use them time to time and their very good @ doing there job !

Hope they help
