Bringing back fireworks in car via ferry from france?

Found 29th Apr 2008
Is it legal to bring fireworks back in the car when travelling via ferry from france? If so are there any steps which need to be carried out, e.g. do i need to inform someone?

Need to inform customs... think it may be illegal mate

Seems to be classed as restricted and the advice is to contact them 0207 202 4227

Yeah, seems you definitely need to tell them:

No person shall import any firework, unless he has given the following information to the Commissioners of Customs and Excise -

(a) his name and address;(b) the name of the person who is to store the fireworks following their importation; and(c) the address of the premises at which the fireworks are to be stored following their importation.
Problem is that they can't determine which are safe - If they don't conform to British Safety Standards - and they won't - then you're commiting and offence just having them in the car when you hit the UK roads...

I brought back a few of those little red bangers when I was a kid but don't think it's allowed

people do it all the time, just give it a go.
Only 3 outcomes

1) you tell them you have fireworks and they get took off you... bummer!
2) You dont tell them, your car gets randomly searched and they get took off you anyway.
3) you dont get searched and you get fireworks into the country successfully... hooray!

do they ask u? just thought u drove up and got on ferry....was a while back so maybe they changed things...and also maybe cos i used to travel with mum and dad and dad used to do al the leg work!

Me & the kids popped over to Calais last yr,and they didn't even check our passports properly. Some customs guy came on bus that was taking us to the ferry. He stepped on,said everyone hold up your passports open, there was no way he could see everyones faces matched the passports,we sat on back of bus, can't see children for starts cos they sit lower than us.

I tried to go recently (with parents and gf) and they checked all our passports and realised something that we hadn't - both ours had just expired... had to go home - no holiday They can randomly search your vehicle- unlikely to get caught but depending on what you're bringing in you could be commiting a criminal offence - that means fine or prison...

unlucky, however it could been worse, you could just got across without them taking any notice cos they didn't with me and the rest of the bus and then on your way back, they could checked and you could been stranded over there.
