Price rises are coming ..... and this time it's British Gas and Virgin Media.

British Gas is set to increase its electricity tariffs by 12.5 per cent on 15th September which will affect around 3.1 million customers.

It seems Gas prices will stay the same, however, the average dual fuel bills will increase by 7.3% and customers could be £76 worse off with bills reaching £1,120

That's not all, Virgin Media are at it again too! The Register have reported that they are set to raise the prices of the "player TV bundle" , "VIP bundle" and the "nine-month contracts"

Player TV bundle - currently £32 for the first year for new customers, set to rise to £33 per month initially, and then £48 per month after that.

VIP bundle - the current starting rate of £85 to £90 for the first 12 months, will jump to £120 afterwards.

Student Nine-Month contracts - The Entry-level broadband package for students of 50Mbps broadband will increase from £26 to £33

It all adds up!

Read the article properly before posting complete BS.
NO customers will be £1120 worse off.
The increase "could" be as much as £76 per year for some people, meaning an annual bill of upto £1120.

Prices always go up for gas and electricity at the end of summer as demand increases.

Virgin media hike up prices every other week, you're paying for Richard's space adventures don't forget!

I heard today that vulnerable BG customers can get a credit of up to £76. I'm unsure how it works though

I've been paying £95 per month for gas & electric for about 5 years now.
Every summer First Utility take a look at my balance and try to cut the payment down to £65ish.
Instead, I take back what's owed to me, then build up a nice balance again through the summer.
Means that, even with a potential increase, I have enough credit on the account to see me comfortably through the winter, without any change in payments.

Wow, touched a nerve there. Do you work for these companies or something?

Also, don't see anywhere in the original post where the OP says people will be £1,120.00 worse off?

Don't work for any energy company - just hate people posting things as fact, when they aren't, clearly for scaremongering purposes.

Virgin Media is not owned by Richard Branson anymore.
Owned by liberty media (Who have just brought F1), they just have rights to use the Virgin Brand as part of the sale.

Or Millarcat made a simple error?

You sure you don’t own shares in British Gas?

Are these annual RPI type increases or just "we`ll do it because we can" ones?

I think this offer is outside of that discount, but I'm unsure what the impact will be on WHDS for those that can get both.

The company said it would give a £76 credit to more than 200,000 vulnerable customers to protect them from the increase.

What on earth actually makes you think that?
All I did was point out that the original post was factually incorrect.
I didn't say "stop picking on British Gas" or "everyone should stay with BG".

It’s just that you seem to be on the attack against Millarcat, and accusing them of deliberately scaremongering, for what may have been an honest mistake.

Does Branson still own Virgin media?

We as a nation wanted privitisation which means say 10% year on year growth in dividends. So prices will have to grow anyway even when efficiency is maxed out.

Price hikes when prices in the markets are falling .. Due to green policy and smart metre costs apparently .

I got given a new Virgin V6 box (fer nowt) had it delivered yesterday morning, spent 2 hours waiting for it to download updates, only to be then told by phone person that it's broke and needs a tech to come and look at it.. earliest date.. Saturday afternoon!

Cheers!

You'd struggle to stay with BG as it no longer exists, but was an oil company bought by Shell a while back. British Gas is a trading name for part of the retail gas business of Centrica.

didnt he sell the company, why would they continue to pay him?

Production of electricity from sources other than fossil fuels has been on the increase, promising cheaper prices.

Another con?

You're correct he gets paid about £10 mil a year for using the Virgin brand name as well as owning approx £135 mil in stock.

Because he is a smart business man and not a greedy champagne socialist who provides services and products at ever increasing prices to get even more money. Fingers crossed he tries the space flight next.
